A few days ago I was lucky enough to get my hands on a couple of preproduction OQO Model 02’s, batteries, a power supply, and a dock. I was also able to do a size comparison with a couple of OQO Model 01+’s…
Here are some pictures with descriptions - enjoy
Here is the video in which I compare the size and screen brightness of a couple of preproduction Model 02’s vs. a couple of Model 01+’s…
I also demonstrate accessories and discuss the slider, the track stick, the EVDO performance, and the not-so-secret [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Del] shortcut!
Thanks to Bob Rosin of OQO for letting me have some alone time with the Model 02. It is much appreciated!

Thanks tnkgrl, nice info.
Other than the fact that its a bit on the shiny side, which I am not too sure that I like, it looks like a very compelling little unit.
Any benchmarks yet, or will we have to wait until you have your own unit?

Please take following comments as ones coming from an anal that loves OQO and want it to be absolutly perfect:
Things (industrial design) that I dislike in 02 compare to 01,01+:
1, The Shinyness! Matt rules forever.
2. The Fancy Air Vent Grills! Call Apple fashion concious, call sony bit of too trendy and short lived, now we got some cheesy & tacky on 02.
3. The Exposed Screen Slide Clip! 01/01+ have the sliding mechanism hidden and that is much better than the unfinishness of the exposed clips on the two side of the screen.
4. The Metal Rotating Arm of the Dock! Yes, yes I know it's a wonderful design that works million times better than the old docking cable of 01, but don't they have more decent way to integrate it? To make it discreet? same black element that merges with main dock and disappears when fold?
My overall feeling towards 02 is that it has this sense of unfinishness - like the original OQO prototype, when looked at alone, it's very good already - but when model 01 came out, you know how much more the design matured and improved upon original prototype. I am not sure how much cosmetics will change if there is to be a model 02+, but I can always dream that these tiny details would once again be refined to perfect.

*jo2k*, the "cheesy" air vents are actually much less cheesy in person
Personally, I like the exposed metal on the slider and the dock. BTW, compared to the Model 01/01+, the slider is incredibly nice on the Model 02, with a satisfying spring-loaded "click" in both the open and closed positions.
My favorite thing about the industrial design of the Model 02 is the great proportions (with the standard battery)... I know, I know - I'm really just a big OQO fangirl!

hahahaha... yea... like I said I am just being an arse, but seriously those are my reservations as to why I think I prefer the overall feel of 01+ than 02. To me, 01+ is more like a Thinkpad, and 02 more like a Macbook.

If we're talking cheesiness - I don't like the font used on the keyboard.

If you read my posts around here you know how I feel about Vista Frankly, I avoided using the Vista version, focusing instead of the XP version which is the one I ordered.
