I don't think my OQO is any different from anyone else's unit, except for I lucked out and received a good unit that works like it supposed to. If you guys wanna boost your signal, get an extra router and set it up on the top level of your house and you will get a major increase. I only have one 5GHz Linksys router set up on my lower level, not the main but the lower. My signal is good on the top floor of my house, once in a while I get signal drops but my laptop does the same thing in most areas. For surfing the web I can pretty much go anywhere in the house, but if the signal is low, then the download times are slow, so I will either stand on the lower floor kinda close to my router to get fast downloads or plug it straight into the cable jack.
My battery works really well. I keep it charged as much as I can, even if its only at 80% I will throw it on the charger to get a full charge, because it keeps the battery fresh instead of draining it down all the way and charging it back up, OQO service, I spoke with ALI and he said I will get much more life out of my battery by doing this, He also recommended not to keep it close to the floor because the earths gravity and the poller caps can drain the batt, he said the BEST thing to do is to keep your battery in a plastic cooler, It's great for the batt, and store it in a cool and dry place. Remember colder is better for the unit all around.
But he said with some problems that people are having with the battery when I brought it up, he said since the unit has been sitting cold/or hot in a truck for a couple of days, the best thing to do is to let your computer set to your house temp before you start it on when you receive it by FedEx. i did just that, I sat and looked at it for 2 hours before I turned it on.
A little secret to let you guys in on to really tweak your OQO's proformance is, a lot of unnecessary programs starts up when windows starts, virus programs stupid typing programs, programs that you can't even see or no that are running when you turn your comp on. To stop these programes, follow these simple steps.
1. Go to RUN in the start menu and type in exactly this: services.msc
2. click OK
3. A new window will open up displaying every program that starts up when windows starts.
4. Highlight each program and on the left hand side of the screen, it will state what each program is and what it does.
5. If it is a program that you do not need then click "stop"
6. Each program will state if its auto, manual, running or stopped.
BECARFUL As some of the programs if stops, could cause certain systems not to run properly, so only stop little AOL commands, music files, all that little stuff that really bogs down the unit, after you complete that, you will notice a much faster startup among other things.
This Is also a good way to see if any spy ware is active, you can permanently stop virus files in the process, well most viruses anyway.
As for the OQO, I LOVE IT! The wait was hard but well worth it. The design is better than flip start (if they ever launch it) The famous Sony u750 if it ever comes out sounds really nice and more stable than the OQO, but it is much bigger in size and still does not have a keyboard. I wanted the OQO because it is small, any bigger and it kinda defeats the whole purpose, but some people won't mind sacrificing size for performance.
I have had NO problems so far, I played sims the deluxe version on it today. Ran great. Wifi is very good. Everything is exactly what I was expecting, except for actually holding the OQO in person for the first time, nothing gets any better than when you hold that thing for the first time ever..
Some other people were asking if I would open mine up to see if anything is different, NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS, If I did that than all the magical elves would sneak out and the unit would no longer work
For those of you who don't know this about the track stick, you can drag it on the screen but it was not really made to be touching the screen, because it can and will scratch it. Many people don't know this but you can hold the PEN about an inch away from the screen and move the mouse, Instead of tapping the screen to click on an icon, there is a flat well hidden miniature Mouse button on the pen it self, you would never even know it was there... Just hold the pen away from the screen, the arrow will follow where ever you move the pen even though its not touching the screen, then hold the pen over the icon you want to click on and hit the small button over the pen and you have just successfully clicked on an icon without touching the screen! Now the track stick mouse button is set up for right click only so you will have to change it to left click in the track stick settings.
I don't have time to post more now but I found tricky ways to make the icons even smaller than the OQO will allow to make more room for other icons, I will post all of this later.
But in the mean time, If any one around here has any questions, ask away and I will try to answer them as best as I can, as long as it does NOT involve me taking apart my OQO!
All of you have been very kind to answer my every question and give me a lot of good ideas, so I would like to return the favor.
Cheers!
