Hello all,
I have a huge problem. I just cannot decide between these two devices.
I kinda wanna use these for a little gaming if that helps. Along with regular apps.
I would not use the WWAN on any of these so that is not a strong point.
My Points:
OQO: Small, Portable, Good Keyboard, Like design, Active Digitizer
No third party power options, Not as good performance, Not very good gaming performance, No other OS
FS: Semi-Small, Not as portable but still some, Great keyboard, also LOVE design, better performance
512 mb of ram, No touchscreen
Any help on this??
Thanx for future help.

Maybe you should look at the Fujitsu Lifebook due out shortly. It has a touchscreen, is similar to the FlipStart (perhaps a nicer keyboard) and may suit your needs better. I'm not sure if the performance will handle gaming however. By the way, I own a FlipStart and love it, but I don't do any gaming on it.
Hope you find what you need!

I'm with jimscraft, as I'm seriously considering getting the new Fujitsu Lifebook FM-U8240 as it looks to be the a nice compromise between size, design, flexibility in usage (slate and laptop modes...) with reasonable performance.
However, with the new Intel UMPC CPU, I'd guess that it is designed more for optimizing power usage than performance. So, while I'm guessing it will be an overall good performer, I doubt that it will knock your socks off gaming-wize...but I'm just speculating....
Really not sure that any of the really tiny micro-PC's will be the greatest gaming devices...but probably great for most everything else...
HTH,
Mark

Thanx, but I don't really like the design, or the performance, of the fuji. Anyone else?? Not that that wasn't helpful though, just not my thing.

I have a FS. Suits me well. Use it for presentations (giving, creating and editing), word processing, organizer, picture book.
I run Dreamfall and Simpsons among others on it. Use it to kill time when traveling. Civ IV will not run. It has to do something with the graphics card. I use the slim battery and AC that way it is really handy and light. Will last an hour and 20 minutes.

I am really leaning towards either the FS or the OQO because of the bad keyboard on the ux. I do a lot of messaging and writing, so keyboard usage is a must. Isn't the performance of the FS close to the UX?? If it is I think I will get that. I just cant get over the OQO though!!!!

I know it is hard to pick FS over oqo b/c this thing (oqo) is an absolute beauty. Edgemaster, if u type a lot, I suggest to pick the FS and don't think further. Typing on Oqo is a pain b/c the oqo is too heavy (compare to sidekick and other smart phones) to hold and to type comfortably for a long time. A lot of sidekick owners also complain about their sore thumbs after prolonged typing. I often have to put my oqo on a flat surface to touch type rather than thumbtype. Oqo is only good for web surfing, which I do all day long.

Now now. I agree that the OQO is a bit heavy on your hands for extended touch typing, but as a long time IRC addict, I do A LOT of thumb typing on my OQO and I don't have feelings of discomfort or sore thumbs.
I am pretty used to thumb keyboards, however.. Perhaps my wrists are just accustomed to that strange position.

Make a trip to the closest MicroCenter and try out the OQO mod02, and the Sony UX. Afterall, it is a personal choice. Call b4 u go to make sure they have them in stock.

I bought the UX, and while it was a good device, it was not the device for me. Logan, I understand why you do not appreciate the device. Also, is logan your first name, nickname or ?? The reason I ask is because I believe we share the same name.

So Flipstart vs. Oqo.... I am leaning towards the flipstart, but I have heard that the keyboard is still a little hard to type on because it takes little pressure, and clicks when you press it. Thoughts?

Did you get that from Jenn's review on pocketables? If you like to two-finger type, I think the FS would be better than thumb typing on the OQO.
Since you said you want to do some gaming, I think the FS would be a better choice, unless your gaming is limited to casual-style or 2D games.

What did you not like about the UX? If you can identify the issues you had with it, it would probably help considerably toward figuring out what (if any) handheld might work better for you...

also:
here are a couple comparisons of-
UX vs OQO - link
UX vs OQO vs Flipstart - link
The former is from someone who has actually used both. The latter is just me trying to cull through forum and other users' reports about the devices, to get some sense of what's what.
OQO and Flipstart are *very* different beasties. If you had strong (anti) feelings about the UX
there's a good chance that you'll find one of the two even worse in that direction.

(On the UX,) I didn't like the keyboard, and the touchscreen was hard to use and took multiple taps, even after calibration.
