I want some place where I can check back for the latest news and development on handtops rather than just a bunch of conjecture and opinions. In other words sorta like this site used to be when the news area was the main part in the index. Something where someone else is doing the legwork to see whats up. Anyone have any suggestions?

The old layout was simply Captains posts. If all you want to see is that, then just track his blogs and ignore everything else. It will essentialy be the same as the old site was.

Other than that I don't know what to suggest, I have never seen any other site that specializes in handtops/UMPC's

This site posts Handtop news, but the site basically has old news because they are slow in posting the news, here: link

Just recently, I've asked Handtop members to post news as they've found it on the news links: link

Unfortunately, it was just me and captain posting news comments.

captain recently commented on the reason behind the changes to the main page.

Many of you weren't keen on the new frontpage, so I put the focus back on the news. My only issue with that was my inability to keep the news updated as much as I'd like. I see that many of you post links and news in the forums, that's why I made the forums the focus. But if you can all take part in posting news and links via the news section then the front will stay as it is. Otherwise I'll go back to the other format.

Thanks everyone.

I agree with captain that the blogs and the digg-like rating system may inspire folks to post about news and recent changes in the Handtops industry because people have been pretty good about posting news-worthy items in the forums.

A few years ago I did some work posting news on a different site. It's amazingly difficult to keep news from "going stale" when you're dealing with an event-driven technology like this. When the UX came out, it was hard to keep up with all the information that poured in. Now, it's just a matter of noting when new reviews come out and when certain models are shipping. That'll be the case, punctuated by a few items here and there, until the 02 comes out. That's why I think the blog approach is better. When there is breaking news, it'll show up on the front page as a blog entry. When there isn't, we can still find things to talk about amongst ourselves.

At that point I'd expect the "liked" ratings to spike somewhat for those posts, so it should be easy to tell when real news is comming in.
