I received my OQO today and I'm looking to install Gentoo on it. I've read through the forums and the unsupported Linux goodies so I thought I was ready to go. My external USB/Firewire DVD writer came in so I loaded up my Gentoo 2005.0 live cd and booted right up. It doesn't work so I posted in the Gentoo forums:

I'm connecting the DVD writer through USB directly into the OQO with the AC power on both items. I heard Firewire isn't bootable so I haven't tried that. I also tried knoppix 3.7 and the Ubuntu Horay live cd and can get them to boot into a boot prompt, but once linux starts loading it doesn't recognize the DVD writer. Any suggestions? Would I have to start it as USB but switch the connection to firewire at some point to get a live cd to recognize my DVD writer?
