I don't understand why you guys are so down on DualCor. Most of us, if not all, are consumers. Nearly every company that sells products to both the government and consumer markets has different strategies for each. I'm not overly concerned with what the government is getting. I will be interested in the commercial version of the device, though. If the consumer version is $2k then I'll start to wonder. Besides, I'm told that DualCor's sales strategy doesn't even involve consumers right now. As I've said before, average joe won't be getting one of these anytime soon. It's an enterprise and government market for them. They buy in volume and spend big bucks. That's more important to a new company than having 5000 people order a single unit online. That's been OQO's struggle. They get tons of single-unit orders and no mass volume. I think DualCor sees that and is trying the alternative approach. I’ve seen the DualCor in action and I own an OQO. The DualCor is so much faster it’s almost incomprehensible; not to mention the battery life is so much longer. However, with that said, I’m more excited about OQO’s next product than the DualCor CPC.

I think you're mistaken, it has been widely reported that the FBI and other agencies are using the OQO. As far as DualCor, Steve Hanley hasn't kept his word. Not out in March, not $1500.00, no 3G. He promised all of these things when I met him at CES.

About the only accurate thing in your post is the fact that the CPC is very quick. The battery life is about the same on the windows os. WM5 times are misleading.

mensrea: I know for a fact the US military is procuring the CPC. I also know that OQO has sold very few units to the government. I'm a big fan of OQO, but the government cannot buy them in volume because they're made in Malaysia.

" I know for a fact the US military is procuring the CPC."

As do I, that has also been widely reporting and is not in dispute.

Nothing on dualcors site.
Hard to find this website and hard to buy from it, assuming its just the begining I hope next week I will be able to buy from other sites.

It has been widely reported that the US military has been using the cPC but I'm curious as to whether they're using the WM side or the XP side. Previous articles have shown troops stationed in Iraq using a WM handheld with translation software to aid their work with locals. The DualCor's size wouldn't be a problem and the improved battery time over a standard WM (due entierly to the size of the battery) would be welcome
One should also note that there is a difference between "being used by" and "being used throughout" (in large quanties). Even so, finding an industry or government buyer is a good deal for the company, but may not translate into anything the consumer will ever see. It may even be counter-productive to a commercial release.

You guys crack me up. Obviously the device is out! And is being used in the government/miltary space. So can we please get over the vaporware issue. Also we all need to understand that we will have to wait for the next round from what john says for consumer so stop moaning.

And as far as the haven't delivered, it's barely April... pretty good as track records go. And ordering from a VAR always costs more than ordering direct. Look at Dynamism and the OQO... money tacked on for nothing.

slickster,

Welcome to Handtops, we whine about the Sony U, OQO, Antelope, Tiqit, and every other handtop device.

I'm glad DualCor has shipping product.

mesnrea captured my thoughts exactly and why the reason for my post:

I like Sony's approach--complete stealth mode and release previously undisclosed, elegant trend-setting or big flop technology, and then build more variants.
I dislike Sony's prototype philosophy--build 10,000 units and never release again. It's like they're messing with us.

^ that simply says that the US Army Special Ops division has decided to buy a whopping 74 units. It doesn't mean they're using them, just that they plan on buying some when they become available. I don't think its accurate to say "Obviously the device is out! And is being used in the government/miltary space".

I also don't think its effective to claim to know who or what branch of government is/isn't using the OQO. I would assume that no one outside of OQO or a given government/military office has that info.

I'm with fil, Glad that it is released but I wouldn't really need a strippped down, ruggedized, TAA compliant device. 'll wait for the retail release.

@JohnG

"but the government cannot buy them in volume because they're made in Malaysia."

That's a new one to me, it's where I am - do you have any info on where exactly? I might go and check it out.

Is it released? Im still waiting to see a hands on review.

And based on logs from some OQO sites the goverment is a large OQO user. And every month the traffic from .mil and .gov get larger. These are the blunt ones too. Im sure there are more gov user hiding in logs as well.
