i was wondering how well any of these machines would run linux. and wich one would be best equipped for the task.
ie, have sound, working networking, etc...

The thing you need to be aware of with Linux on an embedded system like the Zaurus (as well as any of the Pocket PCs that you can "flash" over to Linux) is that the processors aren't x86-compatible. It's true that most of them are made by Intel, but they still aren't compatible with their bigger cousins. If you use Open-Source programs, the only issue is that you have to get the source and recompile it for the processor on your embedded system. If you're hoping to use anything else, you may be completely out of luck unless the folks that write the software will re-compile it for you.
I've run Linux on several of my iPAQs and find it to be quite enjoyable. However, since a number of programs I really want to run, aren't even available for x86 Linux, I'm back with Windows for the time being.
