Come on folks..."MUST HAVE" features here ONLY:
* I wonder how long until this thread deteriorates. 8)

Now that I know that Jory is listening to feeedback from this site (from the podcast)...

Must have Model 02 Features:
1. (MOVED FROM #8 on7/1/06) Same form factor (if not smaller, you must continue to innovate like you said 1-2 years before the UMPC form factor catches up due to board design and mass component production).
2. Intel C or P-M OR Via C7-M processor (support for SSE2/3 instructions)
3. 1 Gb [faster DDR2] RAM (Windows 2003/Vista support)
4. (ADDED NEW 7/1/06) Battery life must be at least 3 hours with standard battery and 6+ hours with extended capacity battery. Size of this extended capacity battery plus the Handtop must keep the Handtop pocketable.
5. Passive touchscreen [Gunze..they're cheap, available, and have 800x600 resolution...trumping the UMPC spec]
I hope OQO switches to the Passive touchscreen requirement like ALL of the UMPC vendors.
For a mobile platform of this size, a stylus should NOT be a requirement.
6. Backlit keyboard (come on LEDs for Pete's sake)
7. 802.11g with WPA2 support (perhaps the subprocessor needs to support 802.11n)
8. A real docking station (like the Sony U or any of the Thinkpad docking stations...think slide it in and it's connected to external disk, kybd/mouse, LCD, DVD burner, etc.)
9. Built-in cellular or at least interoperability with USB celllular devices for Edge, UMTS, and EVDO (aka whatever the highspeed cellular data service Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T/Cingular support...no one cares about Sprint anymore).
10. Same current features (*may* lose firewire port to reclaim space, but must have USB 2.0, BT, thumboard, scroll wheel, rotating display, etc.)
11. Dual video display output support--For presentations, this feature allow the display to be seen on the OQO display and on the connected device (monitor or projector), which is standard in any laptop/tablet on the market.
12. Same accessories (must at least continue to support the double capacity battery and VGA adapter) Earlier reports that the 02 accessories will not work with the 01/01+ were upsetting
*13. (Willing to trade 12 if 13 is satisfied). Redesigned power conduit to support more generic power assemblies. I stated the feature request here: link
14. Be innovative, a flaw in the current OQO design is the lack of thought for the "modular computer" philosophy. If you want to stay ahead, I believe you need to think, design, and execute around this concept.
Why?
Jory's interview highlighted the fact that competition "is targeted at the 'extremely low price point', companion device for the consumer-based lifestyle market."
If OQO wants to differentiate themself from the others, the OQO must be percieved by enterprise and government purchasing and IT teams as a standalone personal computer. In the next 2-5 years, this means that the OQO model 02-03 must become a desktop replacement, a notebook replacement, a tablet replace, etc. or a primary PC. Expansion is key in this area--CPU, memory, disk, and other desktop peripherals.
A- You'll need a powerful CPU for that and a lot of RAM (for Vista)
B- You'll need a way to expand the OQO, adding periperhals like DVD Dual-layer burners, NAS/SAN access, and way to give some one the feel at times that they have a full notebook infront of them. I'm thinking a larger OQO shell which I've commented here in the forums for a while ( link ).
Think expansion of every aspect of the OQO while docked.
Here's a concept of an iPod docked in a notebook:

14. {Added 6/12} The ability to power and charge via the USB port.
Many other portable devices such as the iPod, Treo, and PocketPC can be charged and powered through the USB port on those devices. I never carry a power brick for these devices, just the device and a retractable USB charge and sync for that device (like this link ).

Components and features like a solid state drive are nice to have, but for its 2-3 year price point only the rich and the government will buy that option. Sure offer it, but not in the "standard" model. Even DualCor is preparing for government sales. EDIT {Added 6/12} Samsung just announced a $900 USD 32 Gb solid state drive...That's not that expensive for some.

I'm not telling you what markets you need to be in, but I've said it before and I'll repeat it now, field government people and other "field jobs" would eat the current product up if government purchasing and IT folks put you on the approved purchasing list. Watch TV shows like CSI, 24, Prison Break, Smallville, Cops, US Marshalls, America's Most Wanted, the NEWS, Congress, and you'll see the huge possibilties.

Can you tell I use to be in marketing and product management? It's nice being the customer.

I only need 1,5,8,9 for me to buy; those are the only things that keep me from owning one now. Everything else would be icing on the cake.

Need brighter screen to play movies !!

Model 02 also needs totally new screen, visible from an angle and not hurting eyes (current OQO screen DOES NOT , but half of new notebooks do hurt eyes). something like CrystalBrite technology from Acer, CrystalView from Fujitsu Siemens, or BrightView from HP technology..

rr0123 how about backlit keyboard, u probably the first person not to demand that one..:-) I would really love on/off switch also on light of backlight keyboard..:-)

oh and one simple thing I would like in model 02 really bad, so that it does not loose battery power when off. When u shutdown OQO u loose all power within a week (If you hibernate, it's 3-4 days).

I would still buy it without the a backlight. I agree a backlight would be great, but it's not a "must" for me.

Backlight is a definate must for me. I have lost count of the amount of lost opportunities for work because I couldn't see the keyboard.

I have to agree with rr0123, 1, 5, 8 & 9, but I would add 2 & 6. The device needs more RAM to be upgradeable. The early concepts had a docking cradle rather than the cable. A cradle would be a cleaner solution for the office, and the cable could be shorter without losing any functionality. The MPC has a reasonable solution, and the modular concept was being considered by OQO in the early days with talk of a laptop shell.

With USB 2 in the 01+ we already get 7 and 12B. Incorporating BT 2 and 802.11g/n is expected. I still don't see the phone function as a required integration - it would be a nice option, though.

In the meantime, my 01 is still working fine...

Instead of working on lots of new features, I'd rather see OQO clean up and stabilize the
design. Featurewise, the 01+ is already close to perfection, considering the constraints
imposed by its size.

Design improvements should include: less heat, better reliability (postings here suggest
that, besides the notoriously flaky power supply, also other quality problems exist),
and - as a result of better power efficiency - hopefully also better battery life.

In terms of new features, I agree that a way to light the keyboard would be very
desirable. It'd also wish for a clamshell design, to better protect the screen, but I
can see why OQO would want to retain their fairly unique approach, i.e., as a
differentiator.

I actually like the docking cable. Not because it's big and ugly, but because it
travels easily and can take some abuse. Shortening it a bit, e.g., by removing
firewire and maybe the audio and power connector, would be nice, though.
The latter two make more sense in stationary use, where a traditional
docking solution (e.g., sold as an option) would perhaps work better.

Another minor improvement that I'd really like to see is to have a way
to turn off the "lock" state of the Shift, Ctrl, etc. keys, while retaining
the "sticky" mode.

Would be nice to build in a windows key as well. For shortcuts and the like within the windows os.

I'd add some form of expandability port such as pcmcia or compact flash for the ability to integrate other devices (such as an EVDO module, etc). But the list is really great!

Its practically impossible but an OQO without a fan and heatsink would be lighter, smaller and quieter. To have these removed and still be able to reduce the heat would be number 1 on my list.

if any expansion port was introduced it would have to be SDIO. This would support webcams and gps and SD memory cards etc

I would also like delivery on the OQO marketing images of implied dual screen support... any user doing presentations needs this feature, which is standard in any laptop/tablet on the market.

Adding that to the list jacomas item #10.

jkontherun has a thread about an instant on PIM application for the HP 1xxx Tablet PC that flashes Outlook data to an SD card.
QuickLook, or a similar interface would REALLY set the oqo apart (killer app).
It looks like it is developed by Pheonix Technologies LTD link , an OEM provider.

So I guess I need to add this and kyone's SD/MicroSD (or transflash) card slot to my list of "must haves".

SD bought out transflash... transflash will now be phased out with microSD card, same size, backward compatible but if paired with a microSD card and slot the new microSD is faster.

I've never been a great fan of docking connectors. I would think that simply power, USB and video connector on the OQO plug would be more versatile. But with Dsub VGA and DVI too big it would now be worth opening up the idea of using a HDMI connector. Especially since a simple HDMI to DVI cable can be used. Im sure today more people use DVI (LCD) then the currently supplied VGA Dsub on the OQO cable.

One of the main benefits of this is that you can use a standard video cable directly from the OQO without using the docking cable or adapter. Ethernet can be usb based (who still uses cabled networking ?) and also usb audio on the cable.
