tnkgrl mobile has some informative links to sites showing details on gesture/touch sensitive phones other than the iphone.
link
My question is, for anyone considering an iphone, would you consider another gesture/touch based phone since you'll be able to get it unlocked. I'm certain the iphone is locked to Cingular only.
Theres no way these other phones will have the slick UI however, at $500 to buy an iphone plus $480 per year to get an unlimited internet plan, maybe I will accept a less capable phone so long as it has a good HTML browser and I can still get Tmobile Tzones for $70 per year.
My fear is that these other phones will only have a WAP browser.

I probably wasn't clear on my question. It wasn't about the ability to add a keyboard. I was referring to the ability of Windows Mobile devices to add things like true handwriting recognition and gesture-triggered macros (which use the WM Soft Input Panels), but also the ability of Windows Mobile devices to add other functionality as well. Perhaps a better way to state the question is how you would compare Apple's gesture controls to some of these abilities you can easily add to WM devices (as well as commenting about "built into the OS" versus "able to be added, if desired.")

So with all these things going on now, the OQO 02 the iPhone, there are a number of HTC products coming out, and Nokia might release it's E90.
Anyway so I have a Sidekick 3 right now and a Dell x51v very similair to the HP PDA mentioned above with certain specs such as the VGA screen which is still not very common among PDAs and hardly at all used on any Pocket PC phones.
Well I got an HP HW6945 a couple of days ago because I want a WM5 QWERTY device with at least EGPRS, and its about the only one left I hadnt tried, and sadly its only QVGA, so I have a question:
So here is my QUESTION!
How does Danger OS (Sidekick / Hiptop) do it??
NOTE THE GOOGLE LOGO and how everything looks like just on a real computer not the GOOGLE PDA crap!
(Of course this is just an example, its not like Im obsessed with the Google logo! )
This is a screenshot from the Google home page on a SK3 with resolution of 240x160
Now this is the HP HW6945 240 x 240 with Opera browser and set to fit screen:
Now this is the HP HW6945 with Opera browser telling it to show it as a desktop:
So the last picture I see what you mean by having to scroll but on my Dell with 640x480 there is no need to scroll and the Google logo looks perfect.

P.S. I just have to post this.. the sample "image=http://www.domain.com/image.jpg]Caption[/image" that is actually a picture!! link
And about the screenshots!!? Sk3 I press menu shift and click (as taking a pic) and screenshot is as an atachment ready to be emailed..on the WM5 device I have find a screenshot prg, install it, figure out how to actually have the right screen open and at the same time access that screenshot prg, then I chose to load it up to the pc via activesync, which then in turn turns off the EGPRS, which doesnt want to relog onto Tmo without a soft reset! Welcome to Windows!!!??

This is a reply I got on the Danger forum, again which brings me to believe iPhone might do something similair SOMEHOW!
"A lot of it is thanks to danger's excellent backend compression system on their server. They resize everything so it doesn't get skewed on the device"

Unfortunately it's not quad-band, if that matters to you."
Thanks for that, I read more about this, and this device might become quite interesting!
