It's not a clamshell, but the form factor seems to make it more of a competitor to the FP than the UX or 02. And it looks much nicer than the FP.

I agree, Hite. It's possible to 10-finger touch-type on KB's at 7" wide. It would take adjustment, and you might not type 80 wpm, but you could definitely do it. I always feel a little cramped at first shifting to my Lifebook after all day on a full-sized KB, then I get used to it, and it's fine, and there's actually some room to make it smaller, even.

looks like they got ahold of a newer chipset, now theres a potential noncrippled Via-based device. hopefully the OQO will adopt it as well."

Steve from carrypad/UMPCPortal exploded the image and spied an Intel graphics icon in the system tray. Maybe they are using the VIA CPU with an Intel GMA950, although that sounds unlikely to me.

ppppppppppppppppppppppfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff, every mainstream publication has been preaching that same shit for years on any device 10.6" & under. if people would STOP judging a KB after using it for 10seconds in a press room & let themselves get used to it then maybe they would actually understand. i have learned to use these mainstream resources for nothing more than the latest news. i dont listen to their "user impressions" at all. they are completely clueless about anything ultraportable. these are mainly young hipster goofs that lug monster-gaming-hardcore-gfx-dude 17" laptops around all day & say they live a portable lifestyle.

personally i love small laptop KB's.. smaller keys, closer together, shorter depress time vs bigger keys, much further apart, longer depress time. it's the less travel time across the KB & quicker depresses that makes them shine. going back to my desktop KB is a PITA & my hands actually get tired after to long."

Got to agree with you 100%

We need someone to do a review comparing the FS versus the Shift. Should the FS outperform the Shift?
Recent Blog: FS fan question

Going to be a bit of a wait for that I fear.

Its spelled SHIFT sorry couldn't let be!

Looking at the size of the VGA connector at the back of the engadget picture I think this device could be smaller than the p1610d. Possibly 7-8 inches in length.

Speaking of which, here is this: link
The author seems way off to me and I would argue that in fact today's devices have learned from history.

Yeah, I saw that yesterday. The guy is one of those dinosaurs who probably would've said that the home PC would only find a limited market a generation ago.

Well, under his logic, there would have never been an OQO 01+, much less an 02. As a small standalone company, OQO could not afford a failure. If the 01 had failed (whatever that means), the company would have closed down.
