I found this here: link

We have considered the possibility in upgrading 01+'s to have the 32GB Solid State drives in them. With this, we feel the device could be revived. The 01+ with 32GB Solid State would retail for $1295 and ship inside of a week with XP Pro. The other consideration is using our new EVDO upgrade option that allows you to surf online with Rev A speeds and no cables or external USB Modems.

I'm curious if this is something that you think would be a good idea for us to pursue?

Kindest Regards,

Very interesting offer.

I sent a request asking about an SSD upgrade for my 01+ instead getting a whole new device with the SSD.

Agree with 2dis.

Besides better battery life, faster boot times, and lower generated heat with an SSD, you should also get the following:
- Faster disk access
- Less latency for disk caching due to only 256MB (01) and 512MB (01+)
- Rugged use so you don't have to be afraid of slinging around your handtop (well, be gentle with the exposed screen and thumboard)

NewEGG has a price break and looks like a clearance sale on the Samsung 32 GB SSD.

It's great to see the prices drops.

Some additional areas of improvements with SSDs: link

Hey Fil, glad to see that you're still following OQO. Hope all is great with you.

2Dis, wassssssup bro. Long time. I'm going to need someone to bring me up to speed with what's going on.

Hey NyGuy.
I'm still a fan, but on the sidelines. What I've found is that these devices are serious niche technology and you really lose your shirt if the device is not a huge hit.

I sprung for the 32 GB SSD, but need some advice on how to open the case. Tools, things to worry about (my warranty is done).

Anyone?

Remove the stylus and the screws behind the battery then you can remove the thin metal back. You will see the hard drive which can be slided out and replaced by the SSD. If you have a regular 32 GB IDE SSD from Samsung you need to remove the casing before it will fit into the OQO 01+. Just you a thin flad head screw driver you can pry the casing off the SSD.

For the 01(+)?
If so please see Picasso's pics:

Actually, I'm trying to detemine what size screwdriver (T-wrench) to use for the screws. It's an out of warranty 01 that I'm trying to squeeze a little more life from. I'm hoping that the SSD will overcome the latency of the 256 MB RAM and allow me a little less frustration while I am out and about.
ecks2 - The pictures are of an 01 (see the antenna hole in the bottom?). I remember the vicarious pleasure of viewing them, and looking forward to the day when I could afford to open mine up...
tknguyen - I think it is the same one you got - Newegg has been fluctuating the price alot.

Torx 6 for the 01 as well.

I cannot turn my OQO 01+ on even thought it is connected to the power supply. Any idea what could be wrong: the power supply, the battery, or the computer itself? Thanks for your response.

First check the battery meter are there some charge left ? if not when you plug it will it power charge the battery ?

Try to power it own w/o the battery (only with the power supply).

Hope this help

My oqo cannot be turned on only with the power supply. The battery is completely out of charge. My guest is that the power supply is dead.
