READ about the MINI PCI EXPRESS card being used in the OQO 02
If that is the interface for the WWAN card in the OQO 02 then you can change it out with another card from the same manufacturer for there various HSDPA cards which appear to be the same form factor and voltage! While I am sure one would void the warranty, some might consider this a viable option to get what they want from their OQO 02. This is what I am considering doing plus changing the Hard Drive to the new 64GB solid state drive from Seagate (FASTER than the old 32GB solid state drives)

I titled a topic wrong earlier so I am correcting with this new one.

Well unless you can get the one used by OQO in their HSDPA prototype, you'll have to design and manufacture one!

That's the tricky part "

That's what I was showing that it might not be that hard to find something with a little research, and dealing with our own designed and produced products on a factory level each day that is by no means any issue either, only most likely finding the demand for the 1000-2000pcs any factory would demand to make it is the hardest. On that note sometimes even that is feasible because the retail value of ONE PAIR of something is sometimes close to the factory cost of 1000pairs

*ecsk2*, you and I should hook up, design and manufacture this part and sell an HSDPA upgrade kit.

I'd buy one.

Eventhough I have been soldering for most of my life, and never could resist a good hack; since I also did some SMD, I know how tricky this can be, so I would definitely buy one of these SIM cables from you, if you sold them.

Count me in!

(Hey if you guys from OQO are watching this thread, don't you think it's time for an HSDPA OQO?!)

I'm all go on that, it really is no problem, that is designing it and having it made professionally at a factory!

It would be typical if they would release that as this product (idea) would be ready to sell, kind of like what happened to this company link once they had gone through all the loops to get the MB G class approved and what not for the US, MBusa jumped in and said hey we will be selling this car now (see the HISTORY link there)

I plan to just order the whole computer and if the part is difficult to remove then I'll also order the part. Yeh, I can take pictures.

Well, I got that Dell Novatel EU860D. The drivers disc is an exe file, which tells you that you can't install the drivers because Dude, you don't have a Dell. Apparently, there aren't any drivers online other than a generic novatel driver, which doesn't seem to work...seems like it is for other devices. I even tried the AT&T communications software & Sierra Wireless 3 G out of desperate attempt. All I need are the EU860D drivers. The discs that the HSDPA device came with doesn't have it anywhere on the discs...apparently it's locked to use with a Dell.

How many device have you had apart now (in this OQO HSDPA project)?

I'm wondering if anybody owns any other HSDPA computer on this forum? Anyone?

*educationk12*, maybe someone could try to install the drivers on a dell laptop even though without the card being present. One could try to find out which files and registry keys are added / changed by the installation routine and copy all those extracted files and registry keys and send them to you. The biggest problem here would certainly be a legal one, I guess this procedure would not be according to the license agreements... But I just wondered, having douzens of dell laptops flying around here...

Seems like they should provide the drivers not just for dell laptops, but I guess I will either try to return this, sell it on ebay or put it in my stupid purchases drawer. Definitely not buying a Dell.

*educationk12*, try opening the .EXE file with with WinRar by renaming it .ZIP, .RAR, .TAR, .GZ, .TGZ, .Z, .CAB.

Is it a single .EXE file? If not look for an .INI file that restricts which system the .EXE file can run on and remove the limitaton by editing teh .INI file.

Or maybe you can edit your registry to make your system look like a Dell.

Okay, I will try to rename it. Yes, it's a single .exe file. There's nothing more on the disc except pdf documents. Apparently, Novatel doesn't have any drivers on their website for these embedded devices. They have one that is a generic driver, yet that doesn't seem to work for this device...seems more for their USB/PC card devices.

I actually thought about changing the registry to look like a dell for all of two seconds, and then I thought to myself...that sounds technical.

You should try the USB drivers, I found out that most pci-e minicards actually communicate via the usb bus. Only devices with a demand of very high data rate (like flash disks i.e.) make use of the express bus. So the drivers might work...
