READ about the MINI PCI EXPRESS card being used in the OQO 02
If that is the interface for the WWAN card in the OQO 02 then you can change it out with another card from the same manufacturer for there various HSDPA cards which appear to be the same form factor and voltage! While I am sure one would void the warranty, some might consider this a viable option to get what they want from their OQO 02. This is what I am considering doing plus changing the Hard Drive to the new 64GB solid state drive from Seagate (FASTER than the old 32GB solid state drives)
I titled a topic wrong earlier so I am correcting with this new one.

Did you use the same HSDPA module as tnkgrl or as ed12 or...? Sorry haven't been following your posts all too closely lately (as I've been busy with my two new computers the 02 ad Dell M2010), but since I'm seriously considering getting HSDPA runing on my OQO I do want to see if we can't fiure out where the issues you guys are having might be.

I've really had it with OQO, I love my model02 but I can't accept how that company treats strangers. But that should not be subject to this thread I suppose ;-)"

OQO Demonstrates model 02 Ultra Mobile PC with Embedded HSDPA Capability at Novatel Wireless booth at 3GSM World Congress
OQO Signals International Expansion Targeted at Europe and Asia
BARCELONA, February 12, 2007 - OQO Inc., mobile computing innovator and creator of the groundbreaking model 02 computer, today showcased the award-winning model 02 computer with integrated HSDPA 3G high-speed wireless data capability at the Novatel Wireless (NASDAQ: NVTL) booth at the 3GSM World Congress 2007 in Barcelona. This technology demonstration further extends OQO's leadership position in the burgeoning UMPC Pro category, and signals the company's intent to offer products internationally.
The OQO model 02 computer, introduced at CES on January 7, 2007, is the world's smallest fully-functional Windows Vista™ PC. With the power of a notebook computer in the form factor of a pocketable handheld device, the model 02 redefines productivity for the mobile professional.
Following OQO's announcements of product certification in the United States with major domestic wireless operators, OQO is today conducting a public demonstration at the 3GSM World Congress 2007 of UMTS/HSDPA 3G wireless capability embedded in the model 02 computer. HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) is a global standard and natural evolutionary path for GSM-based networks to provide high-speed wireless data capability, with 142 HSDPA operator commitments in 65 countries.
"OQO has the top PC system and mobile product design team in the world, and it's exciting for us to showcase another industry breakthrough by incorporating HSDPA mobile broadband technology into the model 02's ultra small form factor," said Bob Rosin, senior vice president of marketing & alliances, OQO. "We have received many requests to offer the model 02 computer with high-speed 3G wireless capability outside of the United States, and this demonstration is the first step in that direction."
"We are pleased to collaborate with OQO to demonstrate 3G HSDPA wireless capability in the OQO model 02 computer here in Barcelona," said Brad Weinert, acting CEO and COO, Novatel Wireless. The OQO model 02 will be featured at the Novatel Wireless booth at the 3GSM World Congress 2007.
"The handheld computer is being reinvented, and OQO has done some incredible work in designing a product that is a pleasure to hold and to use. With built-in wireless broadband capability and Windows Vista, mobile professionals will achieve a new level of productivity with the OQO model 02," said Tim Bajarin, Principal Analyst, Creative Strategies, Inc.
The OQO model 02 computer with embedded HSDPA capability features unprecedented mobility at only 142mm x 84mm x 25mm in size, just 450 grams in weight, and with ergonomic backlit keyboard and TouchScrollers; flexibility with a full docking station and support for dual external displays at up to 1920 x 1200 pixels through digital (HDMI/DVI) and analog (VGA) video interfaces and OQO DisplaySense technology; and power with up to 1.5GHz CPU, 1GB of DDR2 SDRAM, shock-mounted 60GB HDD with active drop detection, and compatibility with standard PC-based applications.
OQO today is announcing a technology demonstration of HSDPA 3G wireless capability in the model 02 computer, and is not presently making available a product for sale with such functionality. Availability of the OQO model 02 computer with embedded HSDPA capability in specific geographies may be announced at a future date. With this announcement, OQO does not make any representations about product availability.

I had mine for a week and now typing this on my OQO 02 while there are things I'd like to be diffrent there really isn't anything that's an instant "turn off" on the 02 unlike the HTC, and being and avid thumbboarder I really like the 02 keyboard aside from a few odd layouts like the 101-like keyboard layout BUT with the numberpads numbers being up-side-down I know the numbers by heart on a "normal" keyboard.

*ecsk2*, I am complaining about how OQO is treating non-U.S.A. customers right now - not in the possible future. Great if they will wake up one day and start focussing on other markets, too. But I will propably be with another manufacturer by then.
And as you could read in the posts, I was using an MC8780.

I really wished you would have succeeded...I mean you certainly did something more difficult than any of us. I was afraid of that would be the outcome and I understand your frustration. I felt rather depressed throughout the whole nightmare of trying to convert it. It was such a time consuming project that was tedious and to end up where you started sucks, but at least the OQO still works...I guess it could be worse.
I plan to buy that Rev A with GPS EVDO"
So has anyone else but tnkgrl on here successfully gotten their HSDPA mod to work?
I'm runing out on my 30day sprint trial plus I most of the time only get like 300-400 kpbs this morning evan numbers like 120 hah when I hink of the Sprint sales guy's reaction when I told them I've never used anything but GSM (well I have used NMT but who here would even know what it is...Google it! )
So my thing is though that I have a weeks business trip early Nov and would love to take the OQO along, but if I plan to go HSDPA I'd have to get warranty taken care of first, doesnt seem the touchscrollers are working...
comments? updates? who's doing what wit their OQOs and HSDPAs now? Also the 02e still doesnt have WWAN for Europe in it right??

Yeah, my Model 02 with HSDPA is still going strong... It lives (gets abused?) in its hard case in my messenger bag and travels with me everywhere everyday!
I use it a few times a week - no problems so far! I'm typically getting about 1 Mbps downloads in and around Seattle (same as it was in SF). I can also use it for text messages, which is cool.
I can't see myself getting another handtop without HSDPA. Then again, I'm intrigued about WiMax, and I hope the rumors of a Nokia tablet with WiMax on Xohm (Sprint) are true.

Now when you were runing EVDO did you find it worked where GSM didn't? Also since the monthly cost for the AT&T unlimited really is the same as the Sprint price, with the same 2yr contract, the only thing that would be different for me is the hacking (loss of warranty) and the modem price, I am so inbetween as to what to do I have like another 5 days to make up my mind...if I don't want to pay $200 for nothing to Sprint..

The only time CDMA coverage was better than GSM coverage for me was when I went to Monterey. A friend was getting EVDO on his phone and I was only getting EDGE on my OQO - it's rare to get HSDPA outside the city, but then again it's rare for me to leave the city, so I don't care
As for AT&T, the SIM in my OQO is for a cheap voice plan with the MEdia Max 200 unlimited data plan and since my contract is over, I'm not locked in... Optionally, I can also use my iPhone SIM and my T-Mobile SIM (EDGE only), and I can use my OQO in Europe!

Yeah that wouldn't bother me, what WOULD matter to me is *IF* EVDO (or 1-RTT is it?) was able to connect (at any speed) and there is no GSM data...that's my only concern.

Yes I know about the swaping over card benefit (even thinking of getting one of those linksys PCMCIA Europe/Asia routers) and since I tend to have a number of devices laying around anyhow most of the time it would be nice.
Now I would NOT get any voice with at&t anyhow so what would you recomend?
