READ about the MINI PCI EXPRESS card being used in the OQO 02
If that is the interface for the WWAN card in the OQO 02 then you can change it out with another card from the same manufacturer for there various HSDPA cards which appear to be the same form factor and voltage! While I am sure one would void the warranty, some might consider this a viable option to get what they want from their OQO 02. This is what I am considering doing plus changing the Hard Drive to the new 64GB solid state drive from Seagate (FASTER than the old 32GB solid state drives)
I titled a topic wrong earlier so I am correcting with this new one.

Hi
Thanks for the answer. Would anyone who has already done it be willing to solder a Sim Card holder to the Mini PCi Express Ribbon Cable? I live in Switzerland and would pay for it? I could take out and send the Mini PCi Express Ribbon Cable and someone could solder the Sim Card holder to it. I would also have An Ev-Do Rev A. Mini Pci card which I won't need.
Regards
Flam

Look up a local mobilephone repair place REPUTABLE and PROFESSIONAL, they will have the equipment and very familiar with similiar soldering, just a hint early on Nokia models (like 2110) had a lot of these flex cable stuff in them too.

*Flam*, sorry but I have been too busy in the past 6 months to write part 2... But the pictures pretty much tell the entire story - also look for info on SIM and mini-PCIe pin-outs earlier in this thread. No matter what, it's not an easy mod!

Hi
Thanks for the answers.
I have e-mailed with some guy from mibilx.hu. They have MIni Pci card for the Everun. I asked if they would do such a modification and they told me that at the end of October they'll offer a MIni PCI HASDPA card with built in Sim Card Reader. So I think I'll wait until then.

Now that really sounds great the builtin SIM card option, although it kind of "locks" in your
card which is one of the benefits of the GSM over EVDO in the first place

Yes that's right, but for me in Europe I cannot do anything with EVDO so it's better than nothing. And I would also not need to do any modifications on the unit. So when they release it I'm definitely going to buy one of these cards.

*Flam*, a built-in SIM tray would be fantastic! Who is making this card? I'm very interested...
*ecsk2*, it's very simple to remove the back of the Model 02 and just lift the mini PCIe card without disconnecting it (since the card edge connector is mounted on a flex cable), so a built-in SIM tray would be a great compromise.

I read somewhere on the Umpcportal forum that it's from Novatel. But the guy who replied to my E-mail didn't say any details on the manufacturer. I would love to have a sierra wireless card installed, because my sim card is from an operator which has only Sierra wireless cards, but I won't care if it works when it's Novatel. I guess we'll have more info at the end of October...

Yes I know ands fully understand this EVDO is also not something I'm too fond or used to, as I too spent most of my years so far on your side of the pond P.S. Typing this on my iPhone so sorry if you find typos its more likely its the automated correction feature.

As for the OQO model 02 with Verizon Wireless modify to HSDPA.
WWAN card EU670 was exchanged for MC8775V, but there was no wiring to an
SIM card, so it was added.
A result and MC8775V doesn't work. The message which indicates the
state of 3G Watcher is "power off". OQO radio utility is "Radio on" of
course. A moment recognizes that it's turned on the menu from 3G
Watcher, it will be" power off" again. That a button of on is pressed
from OQO radio utility, a condition of "Radio enable....", it doesn't
change.
When MC8775V is installed in Everun, It was working with no problem.

OQO now offers an HSDPA version!?
P.S. There's some pictures of the OQO headquarters in that link above if you scroll down to...well you'll see a red brick building and a pickup in front of it, not really what you'd expect a corporate headquarter to look like

Modify of HSDPA isn't successful yet.
If the OQO manager is uninstalled once and it's installed once again,
WWAN ON/OFF button goes off and has been the indication which has no
"WWAN". It's made WWAN Enable on the BIOS. The place a device manager
saw, too seems no problem. But, It's couldn't open a property of Air
Crad HSDPA Modem. This doesn't probably seem turned on. Does BIOS
recognize the kind of installed WWAN cards? It was BIOS v1.2.4 EC v1.2.3.

Where have you been?
As for OQO's office it's pretty typical of a San Francisco dot-com converted warehouse... Quite nice, actually!

I've seen converted buildings alright, hey I worked in one for a decade that produced cellphones for the two largest brands in the world, but it sure didn't look like an abandoned warehouse
