READ about the MINI PCI EXPRESS card being used in the OQO 02
If that is the interface for the WWAN card in the OQO 02 then you can change it out with another card from the same manufacturer for there various HSDPA cards which appear to be the same form factor and voltage! While I am sure one would void the warranty, some might consider this a viable option to get what they want from their OQO 02. This is what I am considering doing plus changing the Hard Drive to the new 64GB solid state drive from Seagate (FASTER than the old 32GB solid state drives)

I titled a topic wrong earlier so I am correcting with this new one.

hmmm, so it looks like the MC8775V but not available to buy...but if u happened to get ur hands on one...would you use Mobile Phone Tools for voice?

That 7.2 down and 2.0 up card looks nice, too...no voice but if there were towers that are activated at this speed...and u never know as it is rarely told when they start upgrading towers then this would be a priority over voice. *t say that flipstart HP and ASUS use the MC8775 but doesnt have the V there...if they have it then I might swap my evdo rev 0 with the mc8775v and sell the notebook on ebay for whatever...dunno. Navigation is equal to voice but I want the Streets and Trips 2008 with Traffic and compatibility with gps is unknown...seems like a lot of unknowns to make a decision right now....hmmm

That evdo rev a chip with gps is probably the way i might go just because it is available.

the mc8775v says it supports gps in their datasheet...whatever that means.

It requires such servive to be available by the network carrier though!
There is also S-GPS.

ugh...this sucks...i hate different forms of wireless stuff cuz small devices are usually the last to get the good stuff...I think I might wait until the 02+ comes out before messing with it...might sell my SSDs on ebay because I want to install Adobe CS3 Master Collection and that is 22 gigs. Hmmm...i need 64gb ssd.

Do we have ANY guesses on 02+ already as to time and what it might include?

tnkgrl, I really hate this Sprint card...yes, HATE. It is horrific. Because it fails to connect and/or stay connected. HATE< HATE < HATE...okay, I feel a bit better. I have bypassed the ridiculous sprint software because it is one big bug, and I've set up a dialup connection using #777 and while this is better, it still is buggy. This is my second 02 with sprint and they both do the same thing so I know it isn't my OQO, but the sprint stuff. I'm really frustrated with this...ugh

I need something reliable. Do you have connection/disconnection issues with your Cingular chip...or is it very reliable? I guess I could try that Novatel U720 chip but I'm not sure if it is a hardware or software issue or both or just the Sprint service. I'm at a point to where I am thinking about ordering a Verizon OQO. Calling OQO did not help and I just can't imagine callign Sprint would help...I've been dealing with EVDO service since 2004 and never had these kinds of issues with verizon. Doesn't seem like others are having issues like this so maybe I am doing something wrong or I just lack total patience for being without an internet connection.

*educationk12*, my HSDPA mod is rock solid - both hardware and software wise - absolutely 0 problems! Then again I had absolutely 0 problems with my EVDO card (Sprint) for the 2 weeks I used it...

thx tnkgrl.

The 875u USB device from AT&T which has the MC8775 card in it. I think it is available to purchase now. Apparently they have gps modules for it...hmmm

*educationk12*, except the card inside the at&t adapter is locked to at&t and will not work with any other network than at&t... Whereas purchasing the card from the OEM integrator means I can use my card anywhere in the world on any network with any SIM!

Usually PREPAID sims wouldn't have DATA options though so you typically would be using your "home" SIM if you go elsewhere with the intention of using data, unlike making voice calls.

thx, tnkgrl. I agree...I don't want to be locked to AT&T.

Agreed, however if you use say an AT&T GoPhone plan (i.e. a prepaid plan) then aren't you limited to their GoPhones (i.e. their prepaid phones)...or is AT&T finally allowing you to use any phone that accepts a SIM card with GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)? Because last time I checked, it seemed like not only could you not get a data plan but you were stuck with a small selection of phones. It'd be awesome to get a prepaid voice plan that used a SIM for any phone that worked on their network, i.e. the iphone or whatever...i hate contracts so much that I'd rather pay by the minute.

I've used my Model 02 on the T-Mobile EDGE network as well as both the AT&T HSDPA and EDGE networks... Choice is a great thing!

well, not only that when u do want to sell due to an 02+ release...those in other countries will be fighting over it.
