has anyone figured this out yet, please help, i really wanna play civ3 but i cant figure how to change the res for the life of me.
help!

Look for the ''Civilization3.ini'' and open it in Notepad, if you can't find the file create it using Notepad yourself and then add the text ''KeepRes=1'', then save it. See if this works, if it doesn't I will try myself later.

I tried that many times with no luck.
if you can figure it please report back.

I haven't had a chance to try this game yet but on sme of my other games, I use command switches in the games shortcut link to launch it with certain settings, for example -dxlevel 70 or in your case try the following:

-width [pixels] -height [pixels]: Using these two commands you can set a custom resolution in Pixel Width x Pixel Height (e.g. -width 640 –height 480 starts the game with 640x480 resolution). Make sure you choose a resolution supported by your monitor and with the correct ratio of width to height.

So edit the shortcut and after the ''game.exe'' add a ''-width XXX -height xxx'' to see if this works with xxx being whatever number you want.
