PS : here is a good resource for zif 40 5mm hard drives : link

I try to get the HS082HB but it seem that no one stock them. I am asking my friend to find me one (he's working at Apple as tech guys so I think he can order part from apple).

LOL apple charge $250 for the HS082HB =( while some other store (not in stock) charge around 122-145. I guest I just have to wait for it.

interesting article (with pictures) on putting a 64GB zif 40 5mm ssd hard drive in a macbook air and the resulting performance gains : link

CDW says 1 to 4 weeks.

Despite orgwon's excellent warnings, I'm still tempted to try for an SSD-
though, not SanDisk or Samsung, as they've been confirmed to have EC conflict.

Its probably irrational to hope that a different model/firmware would "just work"
so I'll need to convince myself that I can get by with Hibernation only....
(assuming *that* will work reliably)

Good Luck elsewhere I really hope it works out for you, plz write back and let us know how it does.

BTW - I ordered 4ea Samsung 64GB SSD directly from Samsung and it is a 8-10 week wait. Estimated ship date as of now is April...

Noticed that the HS06THB (60GB, 8mb cache) can be found for $60+shipping on ebay.

The HS082 can apparently be found for CHF141.30 (about $130) + shipping in Switzerland : link
(ABBO Informatique Genève apparently has it for CHF148.25)

Now it worth it to pay about $70 more for 20GB ?
I think I might go for the HS06THB ...

Will the HS06THB be ok for the Flipstart? I found the following details regarding it's size. Wil this fit without being too big or too small?

Samsung HS06THB

1.8" size

Form factor 2.8 in x 2.1 in x 0.2 in

Nobody99, yes the Samsung HS06THB should work on the Flipstart. You can find them on ebay for a good price right now.

How easy do you think it will be to replace the hard disk? Simply taking of the battery, removing the four screws and unplugging the hard disk ZIF cable?

I think a 60GB drive in the Flipstart will make a huge difference, add to this Windows XP file compression and the fact that I play alot of PC games on my Flipstart, definately worth the trouble.

According to tknguyen: "You only need to remove 4 screws behind the battery. The hard drive is in a slot on the back cover. Be careful to pull the back cover enough so that you can remove the hard drive from its slot. The hard drive is in that position due to the protective rubber. You can just pry it out using a small flat head screwdriver. I do not think you want to swap the hard drive that offen since the zif connector is quite delicate. You need to remove a tape between the zif cable and the hard drive and reuse it (unless you can find a similar tape)."

Just out of curiousity, has anyone who installed a SSD drive who gets the blank screen coming out of standby tried turning up the brightness control for the LCD all the way? Its on the FAQ on the Flipstart support page. Worked for me when mine was giving a blank screen. I also found turning off ALL the radio anttennas before gpoing into standby splved the blank screen problem too.

johnnyboy. Thanks for the information. However I turned up the brightness control for the LCD all the way but it did not work for my SSD. I also turned off all the radio anttennas with no effect.
