My FS is now my sole PC. To that end I have tried to tune it to run faster. It is running XP and has a Yoggie (http://www.yoggie.com/pico-personal). Between the two it is now much faster than my Sony Viao 380N whatever.

After testing, I selected Opera over FF (CPU hog) and IE (RAM hog), and Foxit over the stupid fat Adobe Reader.

Cutting a ton of unecessary services and startup programs the base OS is down to about 220MB. I'd like to cut that in half.

Does anyone have other suggestions? Which of these FlipStart programs can I disable? Is there any documentation about what they do generally?

Cheers,

Bill

That Yoggie looks interesting... Haven't heard of that before.

I would suggest disabling Windows XP performance counters, the program you need to use is mentioned in this link along with many other good tips link

I don't know alot about the Flipstart programs but one could always install their own copy of XP Pro as opposed to the one that ships with the Flipstart and then only install the Flipstart drivers and programs that are really used and needed.

I've got to think XP runs great as-is with the FS. This is based on thew fact that Vista Business, as shipped with the FS, runs great. I thought I would be tweaking it, but it turns out I haven't had to do anything to it.

My other observation lately is that the keyboard has begun to loosen up nicely and is even more of a pleasure to use.

Bill, would you care to share which "unecessary services and startup programs", you cut out? It's amazing that you got the base OS is down to about 220MB.

Thanks,
Manny

I'll try to write something up this weekend and experiment with the FS SW modules.

Cheers,

Bill
