I'm looking for a used Flipstart - cheap, preferably... Anyone interested in selling? It's a for a special project! I've been using a borrowed one and it's turning out to be very hackable

Amazing nobody has tried to put a SIM card in there until now!!! I mean, looking at it now, there is even a picture of a SIM card there.

Thank you tnkgrl and snowviper for the answer, sorry for the confusion, but I meant it would be nice if the card had a built in sim card slot.

If one fits a HSDPA card like the the Sierra MC8775 does the card slot in the Flipstart lid attach to the HSDPA card, and what software would one have to use with it?

snowviper - if you change the "Search and Indexing" options in the power profiles to "Battery Saver", I think you'll find the disk activity decrease in Vista.

I still find Vista runs great on the FS...

@GadgetFreak I already confirmed this - the SIM holder in the Flipstart is wired to the mini-PCIe card slot... I was able to remove the existing EVDO mini-PCIe card and replace it with an unlocked Sierra Wireless MC8775 HSDPA card. Once I downloaded the "3G watcher" software from Sierra Wireless, installed a working SIM (AT&T MEdia net data plan), and switched on WWAN using the Flipstart wireless manager, I was able to access the Internet via HSDPA! There was no soldering involved (contrary to the OQO Model 02 where I had to hack a SIM holder to the mini-PCIe card slot) - I only had to open the lid of the Flipstart (4 screws and 1 clip).

After you get HSDPA running unplug the coax cable at the modem and replug them in switched, you'll get better signal. Good Luck...

Anybody know of a good place to get an unlocked Sierra Wireless MC8775 HSDPA card.

Best price I found in Google was a little over three bu! That's like half the price of the computer, I can run a lot of months of Sprint SERO Rev A for that.

I've been using a Sierra Wireless MC8755 ("only" 1.8 Mbs) for a month in my FS here in Europe, using the FS built-in sim card holder.

Works perfectly although my card has only one antenna connector (took it out of a Zadacom 3G+ USB modem). I connected this coaxial connector to the thin cable that was on the "main" connector of the original sprint card and that leads to the right side of the antenna over the screen.

@wodin you'll find a Sierra Wireless MC8775 mini-PCIe card inside the Sierra Wireless (AT&T) AirCard 875U USB modem... You can buy this modem on eBay for about $100 unlocked if you shop around!

I think the Sierra Wireless (AT&T) AirCard 881U also contains a mini-PCIe card, possibly the Sierra Wireless MC8781.

@snowviper I think the accessory camera is USB... I may be worth checking the camera port for USB signals! Of course, you can always use the USB signals running to the mini-PCIe card slot if you don't mind sacrificing it.

I think I'll check the USB cam (but USB cam connections is 5 pronged, USB only 4 *I might be wrong tho*)
