I am preparing to install Slackware Linux on my Flipstart unit. Anyone have any advice as to getting the WWAN card working or setting the screen rez properly?

Linux is why I didn't buy an Eee, or CloudBook.

Too difficult for you, huh?

The screen res is no prob since there are intel drivers out there and you'll just have to write your own xorg.conf as you're running slackware.

The WWAN is a different story, it is hosted by the LID and unless you can find out the command set for the Freescale MX-1's custom firmware, you won't be powering it on anytime soon in linux. I have managed to establish a connection with it via the 'usbserial' kernel module but without knowing what commands to send it, I'm afraid that's as far as I have gotten.

Yup, my last go round with Linux was on a Nokia N800. I found it to be pretty much useless for what I needed!

I've installed puppy linux on a usb hard drive (my old flisptstart HD actually ;D) ... working beautifully on my IBM Thinkpad T42P ... but can't boot from the usb hard drive with my Flipstart ...

Anybody succeeded in booting linux from a usb hard drive with a flipstart ?

I have Kubuntu running on my FlipStart but only from Virtualbox on XP.
I tried the Kubuntu "remix" on it this morning (the LIVE version) and the FlipStart booted to KDE but then I could not do anything but look at the pretty desktop.

BTW although I have Kubuntu running on the FlipStart from a Virtualbox session in XP, the desktop is a little smaller than the screen. It would be nice if I could make it use the full screen.

I installed Slackware to a partition on the hard drive, two problems are the intelfb driver won't load for the screen so it is 800x600 and the ALSA sound driveer snd-hda-intel doesn't seem to work with the Realtek hardware.

Try booting "drive D" in the bios.

The LID uses embedded Windows CE as near as I can tell. Won't it follow the Windows CE command set from the Microsoft SDK?
