Is there any way to switch a chip or something to use Alltel ? We have 0 sprint services in Northern MI but the Alltel EVDO signal is great is the area.

On CDMA, it's not "the chip" or unlocking the phone, it's the carrier refusing to activate a pone (or aircard) that's not on their list of of ESNs that are branded to them. Sprint and Verizon both are pretty rigid about this, but I'm not sure about Alltel.
Call them up and ask them if they'll activate a Sprint branded aircard.

Do altel have air card ? usb one that can be open and gut out ?
If you do, you might be able to perform a Tnkgrl style transplant.

That would have been my next suggestion, but I wanted to see if Alltel would activate a Sprint ESN first.
