Apparently OQO plans to come out with a new device using the Atom single-processor which ranges from 800Mhz to 1.86Mhz. I'm just wondering how much faster and will they ever switch over to HSDPA. If the HSDPA and a significantly faster device with the higher nit sunlight display, then I am going to ebay my OQO 02.

Can anyone share a link with how much faster the atom would be should they go with it? Here's a recent link about their quest towards Intel.

Most important to me is processor speed, battery life (thus portability), same size (could be a tad larger or smaller), same screen capability to WXGA, HSUPA/DPA, whatever it is now, and a high NIT display option. The SSD crap I can put in myself but I have these SSD drives and they aren't fast. They are total waste of money if you ask me.

Babel Fish:
….The moreover one demonstrated Anand Chandrasekher those world-wide first complete 1080p High definition video rendition on a Handheld, the coming oQo* MID.

Intel® Atom™ Processor-Based Platforms Continue to Get More Compelling – Chandrasekher discussed how Intel’s Atom processor delivers the highest performance in the sub-3W segment while consuming dramatically lower power. Chandrasekher demonstrated Intel’s highest performance Intel Atom processor running at 1.86GHz on an OQO Productivity MID and showcased “World of Warcraft,” one of the most intensive Web sites on the device. He also announced the support of Full HD (1080p, 30fps) in the Intel® System Controller Hub and showed the world’s first demo with this capability in a handheld device.

This might help a little with performance comparison - from EeePCNews.de

CrystalMark 2004R3 Benchmarks

Intel Atom 1.6 GHz Alu 5472, FPU 4601
VIA Isaiah 1.6 GHz Alu 7619, FPU 4762
Intel Celeron M 1.6 GHz Alu 6080, FPU 7309
VIA C7 1.6 GHz Alu 2890, FPU 2664

And the winner is - VIA Isaiah (in this benchmark at least)

According to the CEO of OQO this was just a technology demostration and has nothign to do with a new oqo model.

At least for the moment, anyway.

I really want the new NANO processor to be used. Let's just hope Intel isn't sweetening the pot to help OQO make up their minds.
