Hi all you FlipStarters.
I have an issue. I tried this mod: link but I have the following problem.
have TWO MC8775 cards. One was taken out of an HP laptop and is also an ATT brand. The other is UNBRANDED, UNLOCKED. No matter which is inserted, the FlipStart recognizes BOTH of them as hp2300HSPDA modem, BUT does not install driver to them. Under system properties, hardware it list them not as a modem but as other device.
So next I left the UNLOCKED-UNBRANDED card in the machine and reformatted the drive and did a fresh system install. I downloaded a new 3G Watcher from the link you emailed and run the program. It goes through install, but at the end it says: No device detected. What is interesting if I go to Device Manager under modems it lists a Sierra Wireless Aircard HSDPA modem as running OK BUT again under other devices it lists an HP hs 2300 Broadband Wireless Module with no drivers in installed. Now, if I uninstall this device the 3G Watcher still indicates No Device Found. If I reboot the computer now it will indicate that it found a new hardware and goes into the New Hardware wizard where I just can not install a driver. The connect to the internet path does not work because WiFi can not be on the same time the 3g module is on, I do not have an install disk. If I go to the select location, when I go to the 3gWatcher/Installer/Drivers/XP/32 folder, none of the files work. This process is no different regardless which card I use.
Also as a separate issue I can not change any file properties on the computer. That is: right click on a folder/properties: read only. I unclick say OK and close it. When I reopen it says read only again. This is so before new instal and after it, on XP and on Vista. Kills me.

First:
1. Which version of FS do you have ? (some early version did not have HSDPA functions build in on the bios)
2. Have you turn on the HSDPA via FS control panel (FS can't have both WIFI and WWAN on in the same time)
3. Those card has a build in driver, but when you install the Watcher, it too will try to install driver for your card. Thus, you should try to ignore the new device wizard and just hit it with the watcher

Hi and thanks for the response.
I solved the problem. The card was not really "unbrandesd". As luck would have it both cards that I bought separately on ebay, were taken out of HP laptops and even though they were unlocked, would only work with their proprietary software. I found a third card that was not HP, and it worked like a charm. Now I can say connected, wherever I am. And the speed is acceptable.
