I have just purchased a 1G micro card Attache card from PNY (US$20). It's USB and less then half the size of a standard SD card. These new wave of flat USB memory sticks are a better long term standard then SD IMO. At the moment I use one of those SD USB cards, SD on one side and USB on the other and have permanently attached it to my OQO 01+ for file transferring. Now with this new one that I've just purchased hot off the press I will try and find some way of attaching it to the OQO 02.
If you were going to add SD to an OQO sized computer you would be better off going full size that way you could utilise the SDIO component with web cams and GPS etc. If you only want it for memory then the modern USB option might be better. (The only real concern with USB is that it sticks out as opposed to SD which is internal)

I would assume it's all about real estate in the design decision plus there are several USB-SD cards out that will work with any PC with a USB1.1/2,0 port.
I use a Sandisk USB fold out SD memory card.

It is indeed unfortunate. With the Sony's (U and UX) built in memory card slot, one can use that flash memory for Vista's ReadyBoost. With an OQO, one must either have an external flash solution, or disassemble their device to mod their own homemade solution, or just do without.
