Finally got around to ordering my 02 today. Now if I can just wait the 8-12 weeks for delivery! I decided to go with the 1GB & 60Gb version running XP Pro. I also ordered the Sprint card. Can't wait to sign up for another 2 year contract!

Got a few of the accessories as well: dual layer docking station, extended battery, stronghold case, HDMI-HDMI cable and car adapter.

I checked the Sprint website for pricing and their unlimited data plan is $59 a month. I wonder if there will be any price break for signing up through OQO? Their $39/month plan includes 40MB of data, and I think .001 per kb after that. What's the correlation between 40MB and actual internet usage?

I'm also going to order a Corsair Voyager 16GB USB thumb drive to utilize as my portable external drive. These are reputed to be very rugged and have pretty good read/write speeds. Any alternatives out there?

How about GPS on the OQO? Anyone have any experience with their prior OQO's running a Bluetooth GPS system? Garmin has a couple of options and there are a number of other companies that produce Bluetooth units.

Going out on a limb with this one - Location Free TV from Sony or Sling Box? Any experience with either of these on an OQO?

I'm going way overboard already. I won't see my 02 for 2-3 months and I'm already this excited. Keep in mind that I'm coming from the background of using a full-size laptop or my Ipaq 4705 pda as my "portable" unit. This OQO is going to be great! Anyone else having this overwhelming feeling of excitement, or is it just me?

First off congrats.

To answer your questions, GPS has been done several times with the 01 and 01+. You shoudl talk to SupportLinux, Fil, or Picasso. (I believe these individuals have all used and perhaps still use GPS in their cars or where ever).

Number 2, the TV. I believe there is a program called Slingblade, or somethign to that effect that will send TV over the internet and wi-fi. So if you have the Sprint connection and the software (it might have a box as well and of course the source for the TV (cable or antenna)), then yes you could have TV anywhere you get a sprint or Wi-fi connection.

Also about your apprehension and going overboard. Friend, going overboard and pushign the limits to computing is what handtops are all about.

Welcome to the club, I have not even ordered a Model 02, and I am excited.
Recent Blog: Performance Capped

I'm wondering how good Linux compatibility is going to be. Also, how much will the overall dimensions increase with the 6 hour battery?

I've been agonising over whether to buy the Zaurus, which is available now and cheap with a more comfortable looking clamshell style keyboard arrangement, or the Sony Vaio UX91, which although is amazingly powerful for such a small form factor is nonetheless a little too large for pocket carrying and has worrying battery performance. Then there's the OQO 02 which although almost as small as the Zaurus isn't available yet and costs an arm and a leg (I have a friend in Japan that can get the Vaio much cheaper than retail here in Australia)...

It's funny because I've been meaning to buy a Zaurus for well over a year, and now that I come to do it I'm noticing these UMPCs are quite close in size... being able to run the exact same software as my desktop/laptop PC on such a portable device is very appealing. I know OpenOffice.org 1.x can be run on the Zaurus SL-C3200 but I imagine that's really the limit of the device - OO2 will probably not work too well on 64MB RAM.

My old 12" iBook served me well and the MacBook 13" I have (once I finally get the overheating problem sorted out) hasn't been too bad either, but I could really make good use of a smaller device like the Zaurus/Vaio/OQO.

Decisions, decisions...

Some of you are just so FU___ by the OQO :

- Customers being told of OQO Model 02 shipping delays

" I just heard from a jkOnTheRun reader who has pre-ordered an OQO Model 02 from Dynamism and was told of shipping delays by OQO. Here’s the quoted shipping estimates for the various models:

Windows XP (any version Home, Pro, or Tablet) with NO integrated wireless module, or with Sprint integrated wireless module
- Estimated week of March 19

Windows Vista with no module, or Windows Vista with Sprint module
- Early to Mid April

Windows Vista with Verizon module
- Estimated week of April 16th

Hopefully OQO will start getting these devices out the door as a lot of people have preordered them and are anxiously awaiting getting them in their hands. "

Happy waiting !

Hey rud,
I can appreciate that you have your opinions on when the OQO's will get shipped. Somehow I don't think that simulating the use of foul language is what Handtops is all about, nor is the "hater" line at the end of your post. Voice your opinions here, but keep the other junk to yourself.
