Handtops, UMPC - Model 02 finally arrived

I got the notice earlier this week that my 02 would ship on Wednesday and get to my house on Friday. It left Singapore as scheduled. I was a little worried that it might get tied up at the Memphis location in the "international" destination holding area. It spent all of 1hour there and FEDEX actually tried to deliver it on Thursday! I picked it up Thursday night from my local FEDEX location and I was happy and on my way.

I had been trying to contact the OQO wireless setup number all day with no luck. I kept getting the "all of our representatives are busy" runaround. On my way home from FEDEX I decided to call Verizon directly and they got me going before I hit my doorstep. I already have Verizon cell service so it was pretty painless. They do need your ESN number, which is on the bottom of the unit underneath the battery.

I haven't had a lot of time to play with it yet, but the EVDO works great, but not quite as fast as WiFi. Setting up my 02 on my home WiFi LAN was equally as painless. I'm only using WEP, so that may make it easier.

I have to say, this thing is awesome. I love the finger scrollers, lighted keyboard, extremely bright LCD and the cool looks. The performance is definitely faster than my 01+. This weekend I'll begin adding some software and movies to really make it "mine." My "free" dual-layer dock is on its way and my accessories should be shipping soon. The wait was certainly worth it, as I ordered my 02 on 1/29.

Those of you that have received your 02's are probably feeling much like I am. Those of you who are still waiting to receive your 02, you'll be happy you bought this unit.

When I was describing my 02 to the Verizon tech he was somewhat shocked that so much could come in such a small package. He's obviously not a regular reader of this forum. In fact he'd never heard of OQO. He was located in Sacramento, which is 2 hours from S.F., and he said the next time he was in the city he was going to stop in at the OQO office. Another convert?
