Handtops, UMPC - Where are all the OQO Model 01/+ users? -

The forums are all about the 02 now. And the blogs have been about the 02 too! So where have all the 01 users gone? I still prefer the 01 over the 02. Anybody done any mods, anything? 01 users speak up!

I love my 01+, but I'm still working on making it as fast as possible. I remember reading about a utility for the Transmeta Caruso to be able to control the CPU speed (like SpeedStepXP), as opposed to just the fan speed with the OQO utility. The only time I seem to be able to go to full CPU speed is on AC. It would be nice to be able to control it as it seems to ramp down to 300 MHz all the time on battery.

Any other suggestions?

i hold my one and only real number 01 as long as it will work.
cause little more ram/hd/usb2.0 is no reason for me to update to an +01.
and the 02 have no real touchscreen.
above this i don`t know if the 02 realy looks cool if i would use it like my 01. cause for me it is no jewel. it is a hard working outdoor tool and on photo and filmlocations the 01 have got many scratches and bumps. but on the 01 industrial design this is no problem. or let me say it in other words: the 01 design is made for real men, the design of the 02 for girls ;-)

i use the saved update-money to buy peripheral equipment for my lovely 01 and for my future (maybe) 03

two tuning tips.

first i have made different hardwareprofiles.
one with the name flightmode. this is without any bluetooth or wifi hardware.
one with every hardware.
one with bluetooth only.
and one with wifi only.
after the initial boot i have 2 sec time to take one of this profiles manualy.
after this 2 sec it will boot automaticly to the flightmode.
this is speeding up the bootprocess.

second tuning i have made with a freeware tool named tweak power.
one of the thing you can do with this software is to eliminate every windows services you don`t need essentialy out from the bootingprocess.
and this on a very confortable way and with an undo function.

this will speed up the system a lot.

I think the OQO 01/01+ looks classy and the 02 looks cool and sexy.

It's probably a good idea to have a profile without BT, when I look at my HDD activitiy BT seems to be doing something all the time. But everything I have is BT so I can't see a time when I would not need it... but I would like to get a more thin version. HID/serial/modem/audio

Fujitsu has a utiity for their (old) P1120 touchscreen notebook. You can find it on the support pages, it's called batteryaid and is made for the crusoe cpu. If I'm not wrong, you set the power settings to notebook, and then set on the batteryaid page the speed of the cpu when on battery or when on external power supply (adaptive, performance, economy). link

You can also find on the web the "long run" utility (had it from Dialogue for my A33i Flybook) to check the actual speed of your crusoe cpu.

I upgraded, my old 01+ went to someone in France.. :-)

I do like the styling of the 01 better. they should have kept all that with the 02 specs inside.

I just bought an 01+ and couldnt be happier.

The 02 is flashy, but I agree that the 01/01+ have style! Glossy black? C'mon!

Nonetheless, the heat/speed/noise issues still make my 01+ a little harder to love all these (read as 2) years hence. Even without a built-in keyboard, I still use my Q1 far more.
