I just got a 60Gb hard drive for my Sony UX180P (Toshiba MK6008GAH). I'm amazed at how small these things are...

The comparison shots to are a standard size SATA laptop drive (80Gb, 7200rpm) and a standard desktop SATA drive (250Gb, 7200rpm)

This makes me think of Steve Martin's classic Saturday Night Live bit from the late 70's about "getting small, getting real small!!"...

For what its worth, I tried to upgrade my drive last night, but the only screwdrivers I had weren't small enough... so I'm buying a jeweler's screwdriver kit today, then taking the plunge to 60Gb of bliss of my UX...

60GB MK6008GAH works fine (either from 5th gen ipod or stock Toshiba drive),

Nice job advertising for yourself there. The 60Gb drive you mentioned is the smallest one in the pic, but I'm sure you knew that already...

ibm,seagate and i think others have now also, managed to get close to the terrabyte per in^2 density range using magnetic means. and there is also the potential of holographic storage, which can already do many times greater density (only useful if they can ever get past a coouple stumbling blocks concerning positiong of the components)
