Flipstart rugged case

The case has 3 clear plastic straps. It's a tight fit with the slim battery. I did'nt try with the extended battery, looks like the straps would break.
Infopane buttons are covered over by the top flap as is the headphone jack.
The a/c port just barely clears the power jack.
Port replicator can't be used.

Finally a UMPC that resembles a true Handtop! While it is not perfect it is to me a usable form factor that will gain a lot of attention and hopefully we will see more such devices reach the US!

Modding the Asus 701 (Eee)

After spending several evenings exploring the motherboard of my Asus 701 (Eee) for USB signals and 5V (off in standby) here�s what I�ve discovered.

I�m now officially one of the coolest kids on the block! I�m typing this post on my Asus 701 (Eee)�

I�ve quietly been keeping an eye on the Eee since it was announced a few months ago. After all, who�s not interested in a $399 ultra-portable sub-notebook?

Not to mention, it�s a particularly interesting device if, like me, you�re a blogger on-the-go, especially with the built-in webcam.

World's first 64-bit x86 UMPC

Ladies and gentlemen, Sony (Japan) have just announced the world's first 64-bit UMPC in the refresh of the Vaio UX series according to Akihabaranews.

FS fan question

02 Dead Keyboard

This morning I popped my 02 out of it's docking cradle, played with it for a few moments, then the keyboard went dead. Totally DEAD. The track stick still moves the cursor, but no keypress registers, nor do the lights light up on Fn, CTL, ALT or SHIFT. Teck support had me run through a few things, but then issued an RMA for repair. External keyboard still works.

OQO vs. Flipstart

Hello all,
I have a huge problem. I just cannot decide between these two devices.
I kinda wanna use these for a little gaming if that helps. Along with regular apps.
I would not use the WWAN on any of these so that is not a strong point.

My Points:
OQO: Small, Portable, Good Keyboard, Like design, Active Digitizer
No third party power options, Not as good performance, Not very good gaming performance, No other OS
FS: Semi-Small, Not as portable but still some, Great keyboa (Click here to read the rest)

Is any difference in speed and usability depending which OS is your FS running on. Mine has Vista and I am reading everywhere that FS RAM is barely enough for running it effectively.

wifi network "local access only"

I just got my 02
it's lovely!
it detected my wireless with no problem
let me connect after entering password
signal strength good
but browsers can't connect to internet.
looking at network connection it reads "local access only"
I'm on Vista business.
we connect with my wife's laptop with no problem.
Can anybody tell me how to change this?

To all whom might be interested:

I really jumped the gun when I wrote that vista on the oqo was painful. I restored my system with the OEM disks a couple of days ago and am very happy about the installation. It seems that the combination of antivirus (avira), VLC (Some issue with the display mode) and windows mail (LARGE number of files) was slowing my machine up. I am not saying that Vista is without problems but in my oqo it is working great. Good movie and music experience using windows m (Click here to read the rest)

The Fujitsu FMV-U8240 gets Official, but where is the BT?

Hi all, looks like Fujitsu will released the FMV-U8240 (codename: Vaio UX and Flipstart Killer) next month (June 2007), in three flavours according to the PC World Hands on. This little baby sports a 5.6-inch LCD at the same resolution as the Vaio UX but addresses two UX issues - Screen size and Keyboard usability.

Model 02 finally arrived

Well,
I got the notice earlier this week that my 02 would ship on Wednesday and get to my house on Friday. It left Singapore as scheduled. I was a little worried that it might get tied up at the Memphis location in the "international" destination holding area. It spent all of 1hour there and FEDEX actually tried to deliver it on Thursday! I picked it up Thursday night from my local FEDEX location and I was happy and on my way.
