tnkgrl, I read where you partitioned your drive for your averatec to do a dual boot run of XP and Apple OS X. I was wondering if this is really possible for the oqo, and if so is it possible to do this with the oqo. Also, linux would be cool too.
If anybody else knows then please respond. I am clueless.
Actually it would be great to have an oqo with tablet 2005 OS, OS X and linux. Possible?

linux on oqo has been around for a while. i've been running ubuntu on my 01 for ages now, courtesy of (unsupported) kernel and various other bits, direct from OQO
see link
i dual boot tablet 2005 and ubuntu. though it was a bit of a drag to set up. i ended up using grub for windows, as XP kept overwriting my boot block with it's own.

Thanks altmiket, so let me see if I understand this correctly.
1. I know that you partition the drives into two parts for a Mac and Windows set up, where you are prompted to dual boot one or the other. Both can't be running at the same time. However my question here is whether you can partition your drive into THREE parts and install Mac, Windows and Linux (preferably the latest Mac, Tablet 2005 and Linux)
2. Can Linux and Windows run at the same time or are they separate booting at the same time.
3. I want to know if this is all possible without any hardware add-ons, i.e. I can just go through hell for a short period of time to figure out how to do this by installing software ONLY. I don't want usb stuff sticking out of the oqo. So is it possible to put all three on the oqo with just software stuff.
Thanks again

I already know that I'm going to love seeing my OQO boot into ubuntu... but I'm wondering how you like tablet 2005 vs. XP? Is it worth the effort of re-installing everything to have tablet 2005? What are some of the features you like best about tablet 2005?
TIA

I like tablet xp better.I can write notes fast when I need it. Going to try media center XP later. See how the OQO does with some encodeing. Need to research USB 2.0 tuners first,
As for spliting the drive up. The PQI tiny little memory sticks boot nice and fast and are also dirt cheap. Few drivers to treak but you can run the ubuntu live cd off of them. Supports usb 2.0 seems to boot just as fast as if it was on the HD. link

*educationk12*, you can't run OS X for Intel on the OQO because it requires a processor that supports SSE2 or SSE3 instructions! The OQO's Transmeta processor does not even support SSE instructions (or does it?)... Then you also have to consider compatibility with the video, audio, wireless and other built-in hardware.
I picked the Averatec AV-1050 10.6" widescreen sub-notebook specifically because of the OS X for Intel compatibilty of (most of) its built-in hardware. not to mention its fast, cool and battery efficient (4+ hours) 1.1 GHz Intel Pentium M (SSE2 capable) processor. Also it can be purchased for under $1000 including shipping.
Furthermore the standard 80 GB hard drive in the AV-1050 allows me to dual-boot Windows XP Pro and OX X with a 40 GB partition each, which is a useful partition size.

Do you have any suggestions of which to install first (IE. to result in fewer issues)? Also, is it easy to add the OQO specific stuff (like OQO manager, rotation app, drivers, etc)? Is there a setup program to install all of the OQO specific stuff or is it just a matter of copying the C:Program FilesOQO directory and launching the exe's individually?

I'd start with installing linux first on a usb stick. That way if along the way during install you pick the wrong device and blow away your windows you wont cry.
As for the OQO apps on Tablet XP. The 01+ software works fine how ever you have to hand install it as there are no install files. Just the raw apps and the OQO service.

I'm running Gentoo and I don't see support for SSE on my Transmeta processor. Maybe I'm missing something.

The Crusoe only supports MMX, not SSE or 3DNow

How functional is the OQO with Gentoo? How is the battery/suspend life? When I used suspend on Linux it wasn't great.
Thanks,

*pyramid6*, I didn't get my OQO to suspend to RAM properly: the backlight would still stay on.
Since suspend-to-disk works admirably, I didn't try to figure out how to turn off the backlight.
*outz*, the WLAN should work, but the driver is a bit of a mess. I tried to compile the Atmel
driver under a recent 2.6 kernel (the driver is more than one year old), and the build failed in
interesting ways. Supposedly, there is another driver on Berlios, but that project seems to
have vanished. I'll try to find out what happened ...
I haven't found any information about the Bluetooth. I don't have any BT devices, so this
is very low priority for me.

Engadget podcast (number 45, 46, 47...dont remember which one... I know it wasn't 47.5 or 44 so it was one of the three), anyway they said that in addition to offering XP Home, XP Pro, that they will soon offer Tablet 2005 software for the 01+. Nothing new other than that...you won't gain anything other than that by listening to it. Their podcasts are annoying to me...they spend an hour speculating about a few products. Anybody know of a podcast where they don't hem and haw about stuff. The fact that they spend half their time talking about cell phones is annoying too. Okay, my rant is over.
