My take on that interview was that Intel is out of the picture for 02, which is not surprising for the reasons Jory pointed out. Second of all OQO will always be ahead of the game for as long as standard components don't shrink down small enough to be able to be squashed into and OQO sized form factor. Once shelf components are small enough competition will open up from all angles.
I am very happy to know that Jory is sticking to the more technical areas of the company, Ive worked for a number of engineering firms that promote the smart technical people away from where they are best suited at a detriment to the company. I tend to agree strongly with his views on the Nokia/linux/cPC ideas. Bottom line, the money/market is with full XP.
I would put my money on no change in form factor. Same look and size with sliding screen, if a cooler CPU then maybe a touch lighter (I think efficeon).
Convergence can be a tricky subject. Integrating 3G into an OQO and trying to use it as a phone would not be practical at times. If it can't be practical at 95% of the time then you are forced to have the second product which defeats the purpose of the convergence in the first place. A mobile phone is something you want on you and powered to receive calls almost 24hrs a day.
Thanks tnkgrl... listening to the podcast on my desktop while my oqo was in standby had me looking over at my OQO thinking it was turned on, as lungcookie said that fan noise is very distinctive.

One more thing I wanted to add, is that I agree with Jory. I feel the keyboard and mouse are much more useful than the digitizer screen. I would prefer that the touch screen functionality be removed completely. I would prefer the space (if any being used) to add some other functionality.

Eliminating the digitizer would be ok if it dropped the price significantly. otherwise make it both active and possive. if OQO is going to keep the same form factor, (which is ok with me) this will give competitors a non-moving target. and we all know that consumers get bored quickly. and if Sony and the others get close to the size of the OQO, with different look and shapes, OQO could loose it's edge. OQO has to incorporate a lite keyboard. (A must) OQO has to keep pushing the limit by decreasing the size (this will continually drive Sony and the others crazy).

Im not sure if its possible to decrease the size. Length and breadth have to remain the same to accommodate the 5" screen and if you slide up the screen and take off the battery its sooo slim as it is. Would be difficult to implement full size USB if it was any thinner. If the battery and screen were to be fixed then it would be able to be smaller, but that is not ideal. Lighter and cooler is the way to go at this point.
Who knows maybe one day they will be able to replace the hdd with some ultra modern storage device that is a fraction of the size of the existing hdd and use the extra space to install an even more ultra modern battery technology with the same capacity. Thus removing the thickness of the battery….

Jory cracks me up. DualCor hasn't invested 5 years of time? I heard the interview along with everyone else plus the patents that DualCor has over 5 years of development.

@ slickster what are you talking about?you need to get your own contact with OQO and your own bldg & Podcsst otherwise, you know what you a Can do?
one thing I would like to say is that the fan noise is n flaw in the design I record with my OQO all the times. but when I need a quality recording i use my pocket pc, OQ0 needs to find away to make the device fanless. I Know this is Probably impossible but that Should be a major goal. I remember the Psion machines and these devices where remarkable

@ slickster:
No one claimed the podcast was going to be neutral. This is very much a pro OQO site, and the podcast was very much a fan service.

Ahh...Cool Edit Pro...one of my favorite apps too! Are you using the latest/last version before Adobe bought them out? I have Adobe Audition, but still crack open Cool Edit once in a while if I need something done a little more quick (since some menu/options have changed).

victorgv, I think that is pretty interesting. The reason I don't think the exhaust port change was such a good idea though is becuase the finer mesh used in the oem version I imagine was used to help prevent the influx of dust and particles.
Outside of that sounds like a pretty good idea.

And we still don't know if we'd get back-lit keyboard.

well when asked about it he sounded like he got pretty defensive, and just stated that the keyboard was basically the smallest fully functional keyboard in exsistence (and that it should be enough). Im not really that keen on getting a backlite keyboard myself.
