I would (and have) turned down more money for a job that I enjoy more. I would hate to do a job I didn't like just for the money.

Chekote, tnkgrl is right in saying he doesnt necessarily make less compensation. We do not know for sure but I bet he compensation is less.
Bill Gates did this very same thing. I'll bet he doesn't make less money.
Chekote, I would not request a different job within my same company for less money just for job satisfaction. I'm sorry. Most people would not do that.

Most people you know maybe. Most people I know feel the same way I do.
How much salary I am willing to forfeit to move to a job I enjoy all depends on how much I hate my current job. Like illucid said, its what sets people apart.
I personaly can't see the point in earning bucket loads of cash, if you are so miserable in your job (which lets be honest, takes up most of our lives), that you can't truly enjoy it.

OQO will be pulling in bucket loads of cash soon anyways. The new CEO is there to help take the company public. Im guessing the last round of funding was to float them to that point. When OQO does go public I know I will buy some of there stock. I hope they can work out a nice little deal to allow there first custs. to buy some of there stock. Hint Hint let us in pre-ipo. But that stuff can be tricky to pull off.

I agree about 99% of the people that see my oqo gawk and express a desire to own one, and say they've never even heard of it. That is the only thing really holding OQO back. Public knowledge. But once the marketing happens there is goign to be an influx of customers. (i'm referring to TV Commercials, magazine ads, and the like)

That's interesting news.
With SOX compliance, they'd be slightly nuts to go public since publicly-held American companies waste millions of dollars to comply with a somewhat useless government regulation.
They might as well execute and get acquired by Lenovo, Dell, Sony, Intel, Samsung, Averatec, etc.
If they go IPO, they could offer people they know "friends and family" ISO stock.
From the podcast, seems like Jory knows you, so just ask him for consideration of pre-IPO friends and family stock.

I don't think it matters either.
I've started and sold a couple of companies, and bringing in senior management is all about "the business." Bringing in a new CEO and getting additional B-C round funding is typically a sign of venturing into new markets, kick starting business development into new revenue opportunities, and/or going IPO as store mentioned.
I hope OQO does well enough to produce a couple more models for us.

*slickster*, I think the cPC is an intriguing concept... When it was showed at CES, there was a lot of talk about it incorporating 3G, and that's something I'm interested in.
But given the larger size of the cPC, the lack of keyboard, and the useless (to me) Windows Mobile "feature", and given the choice between a cPC and an OQO (even the current model) both equipped with 3G, I'd pick the OQO in a heartbeat!

I appreciate you for being honest.. My only question is how long does your OQO take to boot up? Do you carry a PDA? I think you know where I am going.

slickster,
I used to carry a Pocket PC constantly. One of the things I valued about it was "instant on" operation. It was one of the concerns I had when I made the move from Pocket PC to full-OS handheld. I switched to a full-OS handheld because I kept running into applications that I would love to be able to run on my PPC. Sometimes I found quite impressive PPC versions. Other times I could only find stripped-down functionality. At worst, I could find nothing at all. I was also getting tired of things getting stripped out or lost during synchronizing. I expected to miss the "instant on." I've been pleasantly surprised to find that I don't really miss it. As it turns out, the concern is very nearly moot. That's because, during the daily operation of the OQO, I don't boot it up. I bring it out of standby, just like you do with a PDA. PDA's don't really turn off, they just go to low-power suspend. When you press the power button, they wake up. That's just exactly what I do with my OQO throughout the day.
So, comparing apples to apples (or PPCs to OQOs), my Pocket PC took 1.5 seconds to come out of standby. The OQO takes 3 seconds to do the same. The difference is there, but I'd have to say that it's largely irrelavant. I still read e-books while waiting in the queue at the market. I still quick-draw it when I need an address. The fact that it takes a second and a half longer to wake up doesn't slow me down a bit.

*slickster* my OQO takes about 10 seconds to "boot" up (I use hybernate)... I don't like PDAs (so I don't have one)! I do like high-end phones though.
