As an australian i'd like to say, they can suck john howards eyebrows.
If i decide i want one of these things i'll use the extra cash i'd save by NOT buying from them and pick it up myself from the US or something :P would most probably be cheaper, even with a return air fare.

Just for kicks I went to britishairways.com and checked the cost of a return ticket to Tokyo. Came to £827.70. Minus that from Expansys UK's crazy price of £2699.99 (Where did they get this figure?) and you'd have £1872.29 left over, more than enough to buy a UX and have £800 spending money (A weeks holiday in Japan - awesome!). I'm sure you could find cheaper flights :P
In fact, if you don't mind the EDGE version, you could fly to the US and buy TWO UX's and have about 800 dollars left as spending money.
This is from a UK perspective (Not sure on the air fare from austrailia to japan).

Before you get all up in dynamism's or MobilePlanet's face, you might consider that there may be a reasons for these "insane" prices. (If I had to guess, I'd say it probably has to do with import or excise taxes of some sort. If that's the case, then you need to direct your ire at your government, not at the companies that have to pay the tax. Again, if that's the case, you might use your air-fare example to explain the "law of unexpected consequences" to them.)

UK Expansys beats MobilePlanet by 688.70 dollars :P. Dynamisms price is just fine (standard markup), thats where I'll probably get mine. UK Expansys is more than twice the price of the Dynamism's import service. So, MeanSquare, your saying that expansys and mobile planet use really expensive planes or something? VAT in the UK is 17.5% plus about 7-8 percent customs tax.
To NyGuy, exactly how much are you charging and can you get the Japanese version (no edge in the UK)?

Mobile Planet and Expansys are the same company.
The reason for the price markup is because of supply and demand. This will be a very hot item and there wont be enough units for everyone. Just like when the Model 01 came out years ago the price was almost double on sites that export.
Sorry, but I cant give prices out on the main since it may violate handtop policy. Most individuals know where to find me.

Two reasons, one only short-term: First, you have to wait until Sony releases the unit in your locale. For the States, that's a month wait. Other locales will wait even longer. Admittedly, that's not much of a reason. Second, and more importantly, you're tied into what Sony decides to release in your locale. Again, for the States, that would give you an EDGE modem instead of a CF slot.

Sony US doesn't deliver everywhere (thats pretty much the main reason).
