READ about the MINI PCI EXPRESS card being used in the OQO 02
If that is the interface for the WWAN card in the OQO 02 then you can change it out with another card from the same manufacturer for there various HSDPA cards which appear to be the same form factor and voltage! While I am sure one would void the warranty, some might consider this a viable option to get what they want from their OQO 02. This is what I am considering doing plus changing the Hard Drive to the new 64GB solid state drive from Seagate (FASTER than the old 32GB solid state drives)

I titled a topic wrong earlier so I am correcting with this new one.

*ecsk2*, I've been using HSDPA for a week now - battery life seems unaffected, but current draw is higher at times with the older card I'm using, so I'm sourcing some other cards to compare.

Believe it or not (with me ) I had already read the blog when it was posted, couldn't miss it with Engadget covering it and all

Older card, as in older version? They sent you an older version or it was sort of like a sample thing?

*ecsk2*, by older card, I mean a hardware design that's a year old, and that's not as efficient as newer cards (different models).

Ok but all in all you're pleased with the mod? How do you swap the SIM card?

Never mind...

How did Sprint take that? ;)

*tnkgrl*

You started with an OQO that had EVDO builtin, any guess as to could one start with one withOUT a builtin modem?

Bump, any news on this topic?

I'm still writing up a how-to... As I've mentioned before, I'm not sure a non-EVDO Model 02 would work for the mod since it could be missing parts beyond the retractable antenna (which is missing on the non-EVDO version)!

Oh sorry I wasn't bumper for an answer just a general how's it going with the HSDPA..

It's working great... 0 problems!

Great, glad to hear that!
Now I have two questions (suprise suprise me with more questions )

A) How long does it take for you to get connected from the time you decide I want to be connected to the time you ARE ONLINE, I assume it is in seconds but still...

B) Have you noticed any batterytime difference compared to EVDO?

A) Less than 5 seconds.

B) No change.

A) Ok thats decent

B) 2.5 hrs around max with constanst communication correct?

About 2 hours with constant comm.
