READ about the MINI PCI EXPRESS card being used in the OQO 02
If that is the interface for the WWAN card in the OQO 02 then you can change it out with another card from the same manufacturer for there various HSDPA cards which appear to be the same form factor and voltage! While I am sure one would void the warranty, some might consider this a viable option to get what they want from their OQO 02. This is what I am considering doing plus changing the Hard Drive to the new 64GB solid state drive from Seagate (FASTER than the old 32GB solid state drives)

I titled a topic wrong earlier so I am correcting with this new one.

well, not only that when u do want to sell due to an 02+ release...those in other countries will be fighting over it."

Depending upon what the 02+ will have on it

I sure hope they have it before the 02+, it would make sense for them to do it asap as it would bring in quite the profit internationally; therefore increasing the demand on OQO thus raising the resale value on ebay.

...and with the way the Japanese drool over stuff like this.

Just to make it clear, I don't drool any less myself!!

omg, i hate sprint. I amall over manhattan on the 1xrt speed with the occassional evdo. Constant connect and disconnect...Sprint is great in places like the south but it sucks big time in nyc and ct.You can't even get evdo in most of lower westchester county...the richest county in ny. I am ordering an HSDPA device now. I have had enough of this...i feel like I am going to come out of my skin.

tnkgrl,

My chip is suppose to ship next day air tomorrow. I'm excited! I'm going to get some sleep and then read your blog like 100 times, then ask you any questions that might be still floating around. I'm suppose to be working on a powerpoint presentation for school, which is due tomorrow but this is more important...haha ;o) Hopefully you'll be around but if not...then I'll trek a path...hopefully the right one.

educationk12 : as you have ordered voice capable modem, do you have voice software with it?

As for as i know, sierra has not uploaded the software for downloading. If you have/find it, please let us know.

It may not work, but not from not trying.

*educationk12* I don't know anyone at Premier wireless, so I just called them and talked them into selling me a card

The MC8775V's voice features probably won't work with the Model 02 as it probably requires additional interfacing with the hardware in order for the audio to work... But I'm not sure!
Clearly just sticking my iPhone SIM card in there and trying to connect gives me an status that No Wireless Device Detected. So now I need to figure this step out first before I can proceed. If anybody has suggestions then let me know.

When the Sony laptops I have had with EGPRS have indicated that no wireless device found its been hardware and hw driver related and not SIM card related. On my current TX750 I end up having to run the Cingular AND Tmo software, either I'm not good enough on hacking it or it simply is setup that way so that the hw drivers are in the Cingular software. As soon as I turn off the Cingular software the builtin WWAN disappears from the hardware list! BTW Sony will provide you with the SIM unlocking code for the Sony device, the only thing they "verify" according to what they told me is that you're in North America and not "some place like Russia" (that's a direct quote, why it matters, don't ask me!)

..sorry double post (was posted from mobile and browser said it didnt go through)

My iPhone SIM (activated) works with all my unlocked GPRS/EDGE devices at 2G speeds, including UMTS/HSDPA ones at 3G speeds (like my modded Model 02)...

Make sure you setup an access point with the "wap.cingular" settings (Google them)!

I'll google that information. I have some information saved from when I was trying that Falcon GSM/GPRS device out. I doubt it is useful, but I pasted it below...I'm such an idiot when it comes to technical stuff. This should take me about a month or two to do what tnkgrl probably did in an hour or two.

I'm an idiot, your iPhone card is a Cingular (ok at&t) card so it should work in the Sony, since tnkgrl indicates her iPhone card works in the other devices.

Do you startup the Cingular prg in your Sony?

So I've decided to not do the HSDPA upgrade on the OQO and not knowing if voice is possible on the OQO makes me shy away from starting something that is a bit difficult to begin with...I know my limits with a solder gun, but I was thinking of finding a tech guy who had better skills than me.
