READ about the MINI PCI EXPRESS card being used in the OQO 02
If that is the interface for the WWAN card in the OQO 02 then you can change it out with another card from the same manufacturer for there various HSDPA cards which appear to be the same form factor and voltage! While I am sure one would void the warranty, some might consider this a viable option to get what they want from their OQO 02. This is what I am considering doing plus changing the Hard Drive to the new 64GB solid state drive from Seagate (FASTER than the old 32GB solid state drives)
I titled a topic wrong earlier so I am correcting with this new one.

It's an .exe file. I got the media max to upload it, but now they want me to join to send or host files bigger than 10mb. The problem with MediaMax is they don't answer their phone and you pretty much can't end your membership without filing a dispute with your credit card...so does anybody know of another way to send a 24.48MB .exe file to someone?
Apparently, you can email the file to someone using the mediamax mail system, but they have to sign up for a free account. It is free with no catches...the company has been around for years. I use to have their pay service and I've had other free accounts, but don't sign up...ending your membership is done only through cc disputes.
I did some more research...apparently, gmail and yahoo plus allow up to 20mb. I think I am HSDPA cursed. Compressing into ZIP it brings it down to 23.3MB, which I tried to send via gmail but it said it was over the limit. RAR only compressed it to 24.2mb. And of course I renamed the extensions .e_xe and .z_ip since they restrict you from sending these files. I know years ago AOL use to be 16mb...wonder if they have increased, but AOL has a tendency to never change anything so I suspect it is still 16mb.
hmmm, looks like it is only 20mb to be sent to other gmail accounts...fun

Okay, I finally figured it out thanks to this review of sites: link
yousendit.com allows you to send 20mb to 100mb files yet you have to sign up for a free account which the only thing they verify is your email address, sending files under 20mb doesn't require this.. It's good for 7 days or 100 downloads
megaupload.com allows you to send up to 500mb without having to sign up for a free account.
And then I found zupload.com which took two tries, but it went through the second try and they give you a link, so here's the link for anyone who wants to download the Dell HSDPA file to get the driver out of it. It's in a ZIP file. This is suppose to be available for 30 days. Supposedly you can download it as much as you want! Unlimited.
link
Download is kinda slow...showing 12 minutes to download and I have 30MB down and 5MB up at my house, but I think it would be the same speed even if I were using slower broadband, because it's on their end.

*educationk12*, bear in mind that HSUPA is not even deployed yet (at least not in the US), and I'm not even sure if 3.6 Mbps HSDPA is deployed in the US.

Well, Lurch tried the Dell HSDPA embedded Novatel chip inside a Dell 800 notebook and it gives him the same not a compatible Dell laptop message. I guess I will try to return it. Here's what it says it works with: "D420/ D620/ ATG/ D820/ D430/ D630/ D631/ 830". Oh well, still HSDPA cursed!
My Sierra Wireless 860 HSDPA/Voice card shipped today, so I should get it this week...seems embedded is a bit too technical. tnkgrl, you still are the only one in the world to my knowledge with a working device. I'm going to try that Rev A/GPS to see if I can't turn my OQO into a pricey navigation system. ;o)

Okay, I returned the Dell HSDPA card. My customer service with Dell was probably the best I have ever had with a company. They gave me several options, they'd have UPS come to my house to pick it up, send me a label to ship back, then told me they'd expedite the refund, etc.
I just bought an HTC X7501 which has HSDPA/GPS/VOICE...battery life, can put in pocket when turned on...it's Windows Mobile 6 and I suspect it's similar to WM5, but I had only used QVGA with WM5 so I suspect I'll like VGA much better. An SD slot which I have been missing...might be a better solution for me than the OQO & iPhone. I did overnight shipping, but apparently this isn't out yet and is said to ship Aug. 14th to Aug. 22nd. It's $849.99 at Amazon.com

OK guess it's "too late" to post this then and ask if this would help you or anyone else, but hey I'll post it anyhow

Thanks a lot for that info, it's not too late for me! :-) I'm just waiting for some new smd soldering equipment to be delivered, then I will continue trying to put my hsdpa card into my oqo (even without the pci-e minicard connector, such a pity...)

Do you have details as to which card you are using?
...what if 3GSM in Febuary brings somehting "interesting" from OQO?

I'd never have expected the task of soldering the pci-e mini card connector pins being so difficult... Fortunately I found some old mini pci cards in a garbage box at my office, their connector has more pins than pci-e minicard but the pins size and gaps are identical. So I have plenty of stuff to try out different soldering techniques on without destroying my MC8780... I even bought an smd rework station but getting all the pins soldered without affecting the cables already soldered to the neighbour - pins just won't succeed :-)
The next thing I am going to try might sound a bit funny but I guess it is worth the try: I will use some modeling plastic / clay (i.e. Fimo) to form a kind of a "plaster cast" of the cards connector pins. If that works, I will stick the small cables through the (still soft) plastic from the back so they are positioned correctly, just like the pins in the real connector. Then I will bake this thing (with the cables attached) in the oven to harden the modelling clay.
Of course there are lots of things that might not work but it's cheep (about 1,- EUR for the modelling clay), I have hope that this might work and at least it will be some fun, too ;-) I will let you know how if it worked... ;-)

You'e using the soldering "iron" part correct, not the "hot air" part, if it has such a part on it, correct?
