READ about the MINI PCI EXPRESS card being used in the OQO 02
If that is the interface for the WWAN card in the OQO 02 then you can change it out with another card from the same manufacturer for there various HSDPA cards which appear to be the same form factor and voltage! While I am sure one would void the warranty, some might consider this a viable option to get what they want from their OQO 02. This is what I am considering doing plus changing the Hard Drive to the new 64GB solid state drive from Seagate (FASTER than the old 32GB solid state drives)
I titled a topic wrong earlier so I am correcting with this new one.

I think it's still cheaper to get a cheap voice plan with the MEdia Max 200 unlimited data plan than to get a dedicated data plan... But I could be wrong! Check AT&T's website.
You could always use your iPhone SIM

tnkgrl, can I insert my iphone simcard (I currently have cheapest voice w/ media max200 plan) into the ATT pcmia card (ie sierra 860) and surf the net on my laptop? Do I get charged extra for excessive data usage from AT&T? Can I also insert this simcard into the built-in HSDPA modem of the upcoming HTC shift? Thanks.

You can use that SIM card in ANY NON locked GSM product period, and it will work yes.
As for charged extra I believe ALL data plans have that stated when you sign up but as for in real life I have only heard of Verizon warning their customers.

*nguyenallan*, you can use the iPhone SIM in any unlocked GSM device and in any locked Cingular/AT&T device... All you have to do is configure the device with the MEdia Net data settings and you're good to go on both phones and data cards, on both GPRS/EDGE and UMTS/HSDPA, at no additional cost! Of course you're probably not supposed to do this, so do it at your own risk )
*ecsk2*, I forgot you unlocked your iPhone and are using a T-Mobile SIM... But yes, with AT&T I think you save a bit of money using a cheap voice plan with the MEdia Max 200 unlimited data plan! Again, you're not supposed to do this, so do it at your own risk (especially with data cards). The advantage of course, is that you have voice if you ever need/want it, as well as 200 text messages.

Ok thanks!
On the subject of text messages, I tried to pay my Sprint bill online, well to sign in/up you need to provide your mobile nr and then they send you a txt with the password, hmm wonder how that works when you have an OQO, thats on an RMA warranty service (called and got it done over the automated phone ).
Yeah the bein able to unlock (for free) the iPhone is what got me to buy one. Not an at&t customer at this point but still have some days to decide if I should dump Sprint...

*ecsk2*, if you decide to open an account with AT&T and are OK with a 2 year contract, you might as well "officially" activate your iPhone... As long as you don't upgrade the firmware it''ll still be unlocked.
The advantage of doing this is that with an iPhone account you get a voice plan (of your choice) and the MEdia Max 200 unlimited data plan with 200 text messages (to use with any existing device) - and then if you ever want to get support from Apple for your iPhone, you're covered, since you "officially" activated!
It's the best of both worlds

I don't plan on keeping it, I wanted to see what it could replace if any on the OQO and mainly its just the emails that are nice, but I've decided to keep the 02 for now but not the iPhone unless my wife starts liking it, but she likes REAL touch screen with more accuracy like with a stylus.
Also an unlocked phone is more valuable anyhow, I can get more than I paid for it

I know but as mentioned don't plan on keeping it, although I like many things on it, but I'm not much of an MP3 collector either so, not to mention the new SK is coming out

Well I disconnected my Sprint EVDO yesterday (I thought monday was the last day but turned out it was indeed on friday the last day) BTW someone had been in there just some day before canceling his EVDO connection on something that from the discription sounded like a Toshiba u810, is there something like that with an internal EVDO aircard? Wonder if whoever it was is on here?

So you used the Sierra Wireless card (and still are) right?
link
And the Novatel comment "could be replaced with a Novatel EU870D/EU860D" link was just that a comment? Correct?
ANYONE been able to get ANY other card to work??

hi tnkgrl
Are you planning on releasing Part 2 of the mod? Would really love to do the Mod but it seems too difficult for me.
