Seems like Apples way of saying the phone isn't locked. But still web apps as opposed to machine apps. Big difference.
I like the iPhone, but I don't like Apples way of keeping it all to them.

I will not be on the iPhone bandwagon. I don't own an iPod either (I have a Zune, which is great!). I'm sure I will be one of the few that don't get an iPhone, but that is OK by me. By the way, did Apple settle with the manufacturer that had been using the name iPhone for several years? I hadn't heard anything since the lawsuit was filed...

The one major problem as I see it with the iPhone is: It is a phone that is primarily not a phone. Once you get through all the hype, it is a multi-media player etc, which also happens to be able to make phone calls. It might well be the super next generation iPod, but without keys, it use as a phone is limited.
For a phone to succeed, especially a phone in that price range, it needs above all other things to excel at being a phone. All the rest is nice, but if it is not a good phone, irrelevant.

*GreatDane*, I think the iPhone will be a great phone and a great media player - my concerns are with the limited camera, the missing 3G and the fact that, without 3rd party apps (ie. with only web apps), it's no longer a smartphone.

Hi tnkgrl,
I agree it looks to be a great media player, but I am still not sold on a phone with only touch screen. I had one for a week (some flavor of iMate WM), and got rid of it after trying to make an emergency call from my car. Just no way of dialing without looking at the screen.
The poor camera , missing 3G and web only based apps limit it further. As a iPod that makes phone calls, it is great. As an upmarket phone that has multi media capabilities, it falls short of the mark.

Having enjoyed my Neonode N1m for almost 3 months now, I think it's possible to have a touch-based phone that can be used with one hand without looking at the screen... The key of course (pardon the pun) is haptic feedback (which the N1m provides using vibration)!

I saw a few iPhones being used by employees at Apple HQ a few weeks ago... Apparently they can use them in public but they can't demo them or let others touch them!
