I have been playing with my iphone for about an hour. The verdict at this point is two fold:
1. CONSIDER ME CONVERTED!!! I am strongly considering buying a MacBook Pro today (I've never bought an Apple...I've bought around 100 PCs)...does anybody know if a WUXGA macbook is coming out soon at 15.4" or smaller? I hate buying a 17" laptop, but the iPhone has me so impressed, plus they just came out with a new very impressive macbook and it's one of the few laptops that will run one of my T221-DG5 monitors @ 24Hz.
2. The iphone works so well I keep getting thoughts of selling my oqo.
The browser actually works!!! First ever for a phone and EDGE is 1000 times faster than my OQO sprint evdo, but then again it seem like my sprint oqo wants to stay connected to 1xRT even when I'm in an EVDO area and seems to disconnect when EVDO is dominant.
The YouTube works great on EDGE, however I wonder if you can sign in...I haven't play enough with it.
EDGE actually stays connected unlike other phones that I have used with EDGE and they have supposedly made EDGE work faster for htis phone and it shows! I am very impatient with latency with wireless b/c I am use to 30mb down and 8mb up speeds.
The 7 day forcast weather awesome but I can't figure out how to make it show the area I am currently in, it shows nyc and some other place that I can't spell.
The Google Earth map and traffic work great. It showed the traffic backup on the way home on I95. However, it doesn't locate you therefore it doesn't do turn by turn guidance and no voice...instead it is manual turn by turn where you say next by pushing the button on the screen so it goes to your next turn, which is nearly impossible while driving to understand....can you connect gps to this and have it work like navigation? If I can get this to give me voice commands and know where i am located then that would save me from needing to use another device.
I've used a lot of high end phones, and they were very disappointing. I didn't expect much from this phone, I expected it to just be a good ipod and phone, but did not expect edge to work so well nor all the other stuff...and I have only been playing with it for a short bit.

What are some of the main forums for the iPhone?
Do you think it is possible to install SQL on the iPhone?
I see various SQL downloads, but they specify 10.3, 10.4...and the iPhone specs just say OS X

Also, can you install Flash? I went to Adobe and it's asking me if I want an Intel-based pc version download or power pc...which I dont think the iphone is either. Googling to find information and the few forums I have found all seem dated and speculative of what it might have. All I can tell is it's most likely some kind of 3 core ARM processor by Xscale...whatever that is.

I am too thinking of getting the iphone . Educationk12, Are you sure the iphone Edge is faster than oqo Sprint EVDO? I think surfing the net on oqo is pretty fast and I am very happy w/ it. Have no problem connecting to evdo when my oqo wakes up from standy (I did have the connection problem with my Flipstart when it woke up from standby but when I put the Flipstart on hibernation mode, the evdo connection is ok again).
How is the web browsing on the i phone? Does it require a lot scrollings and/or zoomings in order to be able to read the whole text? The plan starting at 60 bucks a month, right? Thanks for your answer.

No, it's not faster than Sprint EVDO. For whatever reason my OQO and Sprint have some kind of issue that might be unique to my unit. However, the EDGE is surprisingly fast. You can try one out at the store, just make sure it's not connected to wifi, you can disconnect from the wifi if it is connected. I need to reinstall the sprint software.
So far I like the web browser, but it's kinda hard to explain in words, but I honestly do not think they could have done a better job...I think you'd be better off going to an ATT or Apple store and playing with one. The Safari browser makes entering text a million times easier than WM6, it zooms in on the box that you are reading and it SCALES wonderfully therefore very minimal scrolling. It must have 10.5 components in it for it to scale like this....BUT I do want to find Flash for it and Java...I imagine it will come if it isn't already available. I also am wondering if SQL can be installled.
I'm not sure what the plans are...I just bought the phone and added it to my account. I know if you already have an att account then it is $20 for unlimited data and 200 text, $10 more if you want 1500 text messages and $20 more if you want unlimited text. I think the plans do start at $59.99 which includes unlimited data.
I'm quite sure you can buy the phone and use it for 15 or 30 days and return it and get a refund and cancel the contract without paying an ETF...not sure though, read the fine print if that is a concern.

The verdict is... It's a keeper!

It's living up to the hype. But there's still room for improvement (aka. new features)

link If anybody knows of a SQL for the iphone then please let me know.
True, as far as improvement...like there isn't an left arrow that i can find on the keyboard so that I can go back without deleting like when you are texting and u find a mistake or want to insert a word into a sentence u have already written.
BUT, the good news is this phone is going to sell 10s of millions this year, so there will be A LOT of improvements coming, so it's got more potential than all other phones based on the platform and sheer numbers. The oqo has the platform yet lacks the sheer numbers of people buying on; therefore improvement for such a device is going to be slow.
tnkgrl,
do u know of a Flash or Java to add to this phone?

tnkgrl,
after you activated it. Did you insert a SIM card with a different phone number than the first one you registered? I don't mean to insult your intelligence, but I would think that if you activate a new sim card then the old sim card in your former phone will be automatically deactivated. If you tried a sim card with a different att phone number, then it still didn't work then that's bad news. I'm sure you did the later...and I'm just being dumb.
One more question, when you take the iphone sim card out of the iphone and put it in your OQO, do you get HSDPA speeds for data? I assume you would as it seems the regular edge phones do that with a hsdpa pc card, but i noticed they used a new "3G" ATT sim instead of the former 64k blue back cingular sim.

Like the Sidekicks, unlike MS phones yes (unless you run Skype for instance whereby you'll get 2-5hrs battery time).

Are your emails working on the iPhone?

Again reminds me very much of how the Sidekick works, they also work ONLY with the card that's activated with the Sidekick which also tied into a Tmo account userid and password.

WM6 is an OS though not a browser like Safari, so are you refering to IE perhaps? We all know(?) that MS on PDA/Phones is one of the worst when it comes to userfriendlyness, as for browsers if you DO use a WM device try OPERA MOBILE! Now as for userfriendlyness in general see Sidekick and Symbian setups, nothing is as horrible as MS.
If they now would actually get the screen to be REAL VGA 640x480 (which the Dell PDA has back in 2004) then we could consider it as something well up to date of 2004, now we would expect WVGA like 800x480, and a FULL QWERTY keyboard and full compatibility to add ANY compatible 3rd party software.
