Did you like this feature? Seems like it might make viewing somewhat awkward when tilting? Do you have to have the keyboard attached to use vueflo?

I'm a bit concerned that you got rid of it in a week? Other than it being too large...I'm thinking of replacing my iPhone and OQO with this device. I mean it's one-half inch wider (and while that it is technically wider, it's the angled edges which make it wider...which I suspect was for the stupid keyboard), yet about half an inch shorter and over a third thinner than the OQO 02. Seems a lot more portable to me...more pocketable.

Heh look at what I ran accross, as you mention you like the iPhone and now have that HTC on its way...check this out

That is getting very close to what I have been talking about, instead of cramping it all in so to speak into your UMPC using remote access..."

OMG, that is AWESOME!!!! I'm so looking forward to the HTC X7501. It supports FULL SCREEN!!!

At any rate, this is really great news!

WM6 now supports 800x480...I wonder if there is a 5" display that is touchscreen...mod? haha

What device is that? It's kinda loud where I am at, so either they didn't say or I can't catch what they said with regard to what device it is...they mention not being able to get a device here in Brazil...um, EBAY? Clearly it isn't an iPhone or the X7500. Is that WM6? The nice thing about the iPhone is rather than a blank white screen above, you type into the application itself...but maybe they are just typing into some blank application. I guess I don't know what screen keyboard they are using? Looks like one of those QVGA products."

I had the same conclusion about the iPhone prior to buying it. Using the device for a month has changed my view...I didn't expect it to be anything more than a good phone & iPod.

It's not perfect that's for sure...but I haven't found anything better...I'm open to suggestions."

I bought one, owned it for a week, exactly
You know its actually BIGGER than the OQO 02 in one dimension and slightly smaller the other way?

I found the sizeasy thing I did once on this..
link

It's just too bulky I knew it before I got it but still wanted to try it
Other than that it's ok, but I didn't use the keyboard a single time, and it WILL tilt over if you try to hold it by the keyboard and type with it that way, the device attaches to the keyboard with a strong magnet, strong enough to do serious damage to your cards in your wallet but not strong enough to not tilt over if held by the kb alone."

Yeh, I have decided serious typing is for my Thinkpad. I probably won't use the keyboard as it looks like an afterthought. My issue with the OQO as far as size is concerned is it is a bit on the heavy side for the pocket even if you could keep it turned on, but it's also on the thick size...something thinner would fit better in jeans than something thicker. Combine that with the issue of having to turn the OQO off when in pocket and feeling like you need to carry a power supply and/or a extra batteries makes your UMPC more of a PC.

The HTC seems smaller than the OQO. 35 percent thinner! 1/2 an inch wider (yet that is angled on both ends of this width) and nearly half an inch shorter. So overall it is considerably smaller, but still larger than it needs to be...they could have made this smaller with a higher resolution screen...which sucks."

I frankly do 99% of my serious typing (emails) on my mobilephone as of the past 4 or so years, and process some 100-400 emails daily.

One thing that bothers me on the WM devices is that they "release" the WWAN connection unless you have something like Skype runing and then the battery time is rel short

I think you could get used to the VUEFLO yes, but it is indeed the first GEN of it, you don't need the keyboard for it no, it uses the sensor in the HD whereby I was earlier posting that the OQO could've had it too.

Don't worry about my short ownership, I knew long before I ever decided to get one, it wouldn't be for me, I just "needed" another new device to play with and to make sure all the theory and online research was accurate. Since I use the device in portrait a lot I didn't like the non symetircal design, and also the buttons are not really designed for portrait use, and feels akward that way.

I am quite sure the x7500 I had was using WM5, afaik I never have owned a WM6 device so far, and yes I feel like an idiot to even say "afaik" in this context!!

CONS FIRST
You Tube is gimmicky, i.e. nearly worthless. It doesn't search Youtube.com, it searches a very small iPhone YouTube database...pointless, just put Java and Flash in the device and be done with it!
Heavy use throughout the day might mean you should charge it before going to sleep, but nearly all phones with WWAN use have this battery drain issue and it's fine so long as it gets me through the entire day which this does with ease, heavy use for two days without charge is problematic.
Stocks feature...well, it just reminds me how poor I am with money!
No GPS thus google maps is handy but not very useful...no traffic, voice turn by turn, just reading...good way to get pulled over
When you delete an email in yahoo or gmail, it doesn't delete in your account
Strangers will talk to you about your phone and want to touch it and go through it.
Those few hostile anti-apple people who have never used the device will try to rain on your parade. I had one guy tell me that he disliked fanboys who squirt all of themselves over the iPhone and went on and on about how stupid people like me are...quite comical to hear it...don't bash it until you've used it for a long time is my philosophy. I don't act like an expert on products I haven't tried, but I can say I have tried similar products sometimes, but nobody can say that about the iPhone, so the critics usually haven't used the device for a long time.
No remote desktop
No SQL/Frameworks/Office Apps
No SD slot
I can't say not being able to take the battery out...I kinda like this feature because it charges via USB but some might not...seems to make sense to me, it makes it thinner.
EDGE

PROS
Charges via USB
Rarely have connectivity issues
Calendar/Schedule is very UI friendly and easy, efficient...not cumbersome/complicated like Outlook
Camera takes pretty good pictures and you can view them on 100 percent of the screen...again the UI is very nice, not complicated
Google maps is very similar to what you'd get on a regular computer.
As silly as this sounds, the 7 day weather feature is nice and I'm not into weather...it's just an easy feature that shows the whole week without it interferring with anything, takes 1 second and it's gone...just savvy UI as I'll say again and again
Alarm Clock feature ROCKS...it's hard to explain, but the clock, stopwatch, timer is so quick to set and better options...just easy
Calculator is like a real calculator...it just works by the touch without you having to touch special on the screen like so many smartphones, it's like a button calculator
It's very efficient in letting you know if there is WIFI around and you select EDGE and it leaves you alone about the WIFI and of course you can go back...it's just easy, not buggy.
Of course, the iPod feature
Safari Web browser...I'm sure there are a zillion YouTube videos, it's just great...of course I wish it was in a higher resolution screen, yet considering it is only 320x480...it's quite remarkable what it displays unlike a very similar resolution with WM5...WM5 browser in all the devices I used was horrific.
I have multiple email accounts, I get a little vibrate each time one comes in and I can check it really quickly, delete it and it's still in my inbox...no need to sign in EVER, it's always signed in monitoring all my email accounts at once. Receiving emails can't be any easier and replying is great...not all email messages work but 100x more so than WM5 did.
Visual VOICEMAIL - if I sell this iphone for the x7501...this is the feature I will miss the most, I HATE calling my voicemail to hear that stupid lady go through the same instructions/announcements each time I want to check the lame..."hey, it's me, call me back" message. Visual voicemail makes it as quick as one tap and you can select the voicemail. I have never loved voicemail so much.
Of course I think the keyboard is superior to all UMPC/phone keyboards.
The headphone mute/answer call feature is neat.
I suspect there are a lot of other things that could be said, but...
HSDPA at $20/mo for any HSDPA capable device.
Wifi works great
I've not babied this phone and yet I still don't have a scratch. I even dropped it on tile and thought surely it got damaged, it didn't even turn off...it's rock solid
turning speaker phone on and off is easy and going from keypad and just overall flexibility to talk to up to SIX people is cool

In conclusion, it's the USER INTERFACE. Apple has made this few features this phone does offer compared to all the third party applications you can add to other smart(er) phones, it's not complicated, it works very easily and quickly, common sense OS design...WM makes everything such a chore. I can't explain how the OS on this phone works so well, flicking your finger to scroll through things, zooming by pinching....it's just a very easy device to use all the features without the headaches I would get with other smartphones/pocketPC...whatever you call it.

I will say I will like the expandability of applications with the HTC, but for Apple's first "smart" phone, I have to say they really put every other company to shame when it comes to coming out with a first product. The OS on this is incredible. I suspect if Apple had been doing this as long as Windows, then it'd be more fair to compare the expandability of WM6 to OSX...but they are the new kids in town and I think they I got my money's worth. The only interest in the x7501 is because I find the OQO lacking...I'm pleased with the iPhone.

YES, that is something I found dreadful with WM5. Just stay connected 24/7...stop this nonsense of having to reconnect. Make it seemless, that's what the iphone does. Occassionally, you might have an issue, but it's so rare that isn't not annoying.

EVDO pc cards have the same stuff in them, it's software based as if you have a pc card in a pc card router it gets rid of the dormant mode. I have no patience for connectivity issues...there's no reason for it.

Hopefully WM6 will be better.

Oh, yes you had WM5 on the X7500 unless you were able to get your hands on WM6 and upgraded it, otherwise it was like every other x7500...to my knowledge the only improvement in the x7501 is WM6 Professional whereas x7500s have WM5.

WM6 has several versions...Classic, Standard, Professional, etc. Professional being the best and generally for larger devices like the x7501. I think WM5 didn't have this distinction with that OS version.

Afaik it is just like I predicted a link to the m.youtube site link
since you can NOT access the "regular" youtube from the browser, well not show the movie clips anyhow.

Frankly I wouldn't put that as a minus! That's quite decent really.

If I needed stocks that should be possible to do over SMS / IM on just about any "smartphone" quite live?

GPS is just a battery drainer anyhow...btw as you mention this I recall I believe ppl have had issues getting the x7500 to work with Google maps on the GPS side of things that is.

Exactly as on the Sidekick, and yes there can't be anything as akward and weird as doing emails on WM devices, I truely hate it!

Having grown up in Europe, I don't like (read: I hate) ANY and ALL voicemails, hardly ever use them not as a sender of or reciever of, if you're not going to answer your phone don't have one Europeans don't talking into recordings much. Answering machines also never really took off in Europe.

Now I have tried this, and I am sorry but I couldn't disagree any stronger, now on this "don't bash it until you've used it for a long time is my philosophy" have you owned/used a Sidekick 3, just for the keyboard alone it's worth a trophy in my book just try it if you get a chance!

That's another thing I love about the Sidekicks, if its on and you're in coverage you ARE ONLINE, at all times, and that's what you are just about always, I've had less outages with my Sidekicks than I have had with my cable internet

Ok yes x7500 and knowing I was not going to keep it I was very careful to modify much of anything I only added Skype and a couple of other small things.

educationk12 said: "

Ok yes this I have understood but as I said haven't tested it yet, let us know what you think!

Btw have you tried the totally FREE SOONR on your iPhone?

To me GPS is useless without traffic, so hopefully MapPoint 2008 or S&T 08 if there is a WM6 version of it will include traffic, voice turn by turn. But can't you just turn the GPS off when not in route thus avoiding battery drain when not using it?

Well, I wouldn't avoid the OQO just over EVDO...u could always do what tnkgrl did...my issue is I wanted Voice with HSDPA. Seems if you got her MPCI card then HSDPA should work without a problem.

Seems like that remote desktop for iphone is buggy...I'd rather use something that works without issues. I'm not good at adding software apps that are more hacks than solid programs. Although I'd be willing to try it, but as I'm sure you've already noted I'm not the savviest of people to get stuff like this to work. I can't remote desktop at auctions because often times Internet doesn't work as you can be in a building that blocks the signal, which is one of the reasons why I had the SQL program designed.

Well, I'd use the SD slot for a barcode scanner, but you can use bluetooth for barcode scanners but bluetooth can be buggy, battery charging issues along with only having so many hands, they have a bluetooth ring scanner you put on your finger but its too high in the geek factor for me...I like to not announce it to the world.

I must admit that I've never used a VGA or higher WM device....all iphone resolution or lower. I couldn't rationalize the size of a PDA for a phone, the only reason I do it for the x7501 is the idea to replace the OQO and iphone for one device.

Not sure whether this dock would be useful, but apparently HTC has a dock for the Advantage now.
link

I haven't tried the sidekick keyboard....I can say it's the best buttonless or keyboardless keyboard I have used and I like how much smaller the device is without a keyboard, like the added size to the x7501 with keyboard makes it even less pocketable.

ecsk2 said: "Btw have you tried the totally FREE SOONR on your iPhone?

That's pretty neat, but he clearly is using WIFI and not EDGE to do all that so fast. I kinda don't see the iPhone doing this for me until it is HSDPA inside, then I'll take those types of applications to that level of mobility. Although it is possible he could be using EDGE...sometimes it is surprisingly 3G like...the phone has optimized EDGE better than even a pc card.

This is a pretty good review of the x7501...when he mentioned the 5" VGA being high resolution in the beginning of his review, I almost closed out, but the review is well written despite his resolution comments.

It's only USB 1.1, but u can charge it with the USB which is great.

The sd slot is miniSD, so no miniSD barcode scanner yet seems like some hoping to do the same thing have bought this miniSD to SD adapter link

It can handle the 4GB miniSD high capacity cards. 12GB, etc.

The hard drive seems like it is a 1" spinning drive, so not as fast as flash...but this is the fastest processor for windows mobile so it will fly and has plenty of ROM/RAM so speed isn't an issue.

Battery life seems great and when you go to sleep you can put it in flight mode so that it uses pretty much zero power according to the review.

Anyway, I'm glad I ordered this...I think after buying it then reading that review...I think this will better suit my needs. Looking forward to it. Any idea of the best tiny bluetooth headsets?

Also, I like how this device isn't as sexy as the iPhone and oqo 02. I hate people bugging me in public places...that's one nice thing about a thinkpad...everyone just says...oh, an old IBM. haha
