My 02 seems to freeze up randomly, and I can't get it out, I have to shut down. This happens even when it is sitting still, I have tested it by just leaving it on the desk and letting it run. It seemed to do this only occasionally initially, but now it's fairly frequent and I don't feel like I can really trust it.
Anyone else having this issue?

I suspect that is just the common freezing that any OS will do if something is messed up with it software wise...I suspect reinstalling windows would fix your problem....which is why I don't store files on computers. They are too unstable. Of course Linux and Apple people never have problems...lol

rr0123,
What's your OS? I'm noticing that my 02 with Vista Ult is starting to freeze up randomly as well. I'm thinking it may have something to do with my external harddrive...

Mine freezes as well (Vista/Best) from time to time. It seems to happen when I'm running CPU intensive programs. I've tried various fan speed settings, etc. nothing seems to help. Maybe the upcoming Vista Sp1 will help.

I'd second the above comment (Vista Ultimate) but it unfreezes once the CPU catches up.

I'm running XP. I did have the fan setting on the quietest setting. I moved it to the middle and was able to run it all day yesterday without freezing. I'm willing to live with the occasional freeze, I figure it's just the price to pay for the Via chip. But it was getting way too frequent. I'll keep the fan at the middle setting and report back if the frequent freezing continues.

Yeah I'm guessing you're experiencing heat related issues. Heat cause electronics to act funny. Since moving the fan speed up seemed to allievated the problem, I'd say you could probably bet on that being the issue.

Finally I hear of someone with similar problems!
I have the same issues, rr0123. It is frustrating, because you loose trust in your computer, which is bad. OQO didn't help at all, mostly because it is a random problem that cannot be tracked down well. All their suggestions were dead ends.
In my case it is definitely not a heat issue, it happens hot or cold, with low or high CPU loads, no matter. Even sitting idle, it happened sometimes.
I also reinstalled WinXP Tablet to no avail. And since I experienced the same thing under Linux (I use a dualboot configuration), I am convinced it is hardware related.
But for me a couple of things helped: Turning off wireless completely when on ethernet. And not running CPU intensive tasks when doing long downloads via WIFI.

You might have a loose connection from the zif cable to the hard drive. If you can open up your OQO, make sure the connection is tight and put a scotch tape between the cable and the hard drive to keep it in place it might help. However by open up your OQO you will void the warranty and doing this might not solve the problem.

wifi might be a factor. My day-long test had internet via buetooth, not wifi.

Wolf, that sounds like a crappy situation. I agree with you that it is probably hardware related. Sounds to me like a bad ground, or something that should have been caught in QA. I would have just ask OQO for a new one as a trade. Easier typed than done I'm guessing.

Yes, talking to OQO their favorite choice is not swapping it out unless I have a "serious" problem (which I think it is, if you can't trust your computer to be stable).
The HD connections are OK, I checked that aleady.

My case might be similar or a bit different. When wifi (for internet) and bluetooth devices(mouse and keyboard) are used simaltanously, my oqo model2(xp) freezes quite often, almost within 5 minutes. I happended to see the link below and tried first two tweaks (DisablePagingExecutive = 1, and Win32PrioritySeparation = 38), then, I see no freeze so far. Hope this may help.

My freezing issue is pretty much gone now that I stay at the middle setting with the fan.

this is from my 01 boot tuning but maybe this helps on the 02:
i have made different hardwareprofiles.
one with the name flightmode. this is without any bluetooth or wifi hardware.
one with every hardware.
one with bluetooth only.
and one with wifi only.
after the initial boot i have 3 sec time to take one of this profiles manualy.
if i take nothing in the 3 seconds it will boot automaticly to the flightmode.
this is speeding up the bootprocess and my 01 is much more stable.
and a question to rr0123.
what are your harddrive and monitorshutdown settings in the powermanagement?
have you set the hibernation mode?
