12GB on MicroSD, that IS impressive (well today it is, 5 years from now you might Google and find this and laugh )

What I'm wondering about the support circuitry. I know SSDs have a whole set of firmware/hardware to do load-leveling, pre-emptive reindexing (so a storage location that's about to go bad is transferred to one that isn't and the almost bad location is marked unusable), and other things to maximize lifespan. I don't know if microSDs have any of that.

12GB is enough to do a small Linux distribution and you could probably get XP into that space(!) 16GB would get a small Vista or OSX installation.

Still SSDs are up to 64GB now. I suspect that they'll double again soon.

Not quite double but yeah more updates on both SSD and CF:

Thanks for the links. Not only are the SSDs getting up to a reasonable capacity, but CF really getting up there too. I had my eye on a 16GB card for a while. I think I'll give it a pass and double or triple that capacity (when those Pretec cards actually hit the market).

48GB in CF and 12GB in MicroSD is quite remarkable!

I doubt MicroSD is anywhere near up to the speed of SSD's, its not a competitor, it's comparing apples and oranges.

Very true, I was merely comparing the memory capacity since the microSD car is TINY after all in physical size.
