So lots of new MIDs running linux which is good as it pushes the technology forward, but I've not seen much else interesting UMPC wise, ie with keyboard and able to run a microsoft OS. Not seen anything better than the OQO or Fujitsu u810, both of which are nearly a year old now.

An interesting LG UMPC was just put on engadget.

Where are all these MIDs? I have a vague recollection of coming across one, but it didn't seem that interesting.

There are about 10 MIDs, umpcportal has a few. Gottabemobile has a video
Yes , just saw the LG , looks like an OQO. Looks unfinished though

I like my Asus EeePC 8G. It comes with Linux, but you can install XP on it. The company sends the necessary drivers on a DVD.

Its not a handtop though, I cant put one in my pocket

UMPC Portal's site is overwhelmed right now due to direct links from Engadget

wow, the LG looks slick! it looks to be a little smaller overall (defintely thinner), much faster CPU, way higher resolution, and a touchpad.

i bet LG/Intel could really bring this baby to market for a much lower price as well.

Gottabemobile is reporting the LG is not coming out in the USA. Bizarre

Looks like I might be looking around Conics and/or Dynamism again
Sometimes the best stuff just skips over US distribution. I agree that it's bizarre.
LG has a number of notebooks and a tablet that weren't sold in the USA either... I almost got one from Canada, which would not be a big deal now since the currency ratio is 1:1...

Pocketables has some nice info on the Digifriends MID:

It's a 1.2 Ghz silverthorne! If that is comparable to Pentium M speeds then it should be pretty nice (and faster than Via's C7M). It has kind of a funny attachable keyboard/stand/speakers... not sure how pleasant it will be to type on it.

That Digifriends device looks cool. But Korea only I bet

The fact that a lot of great products (not to mention cars!) never reach the USA isn't really as "bizarre" as it might sound/seem. Its just a fact that the North American consumer (esp. USA) is so spoiled with low prices (read "cheap") and the overall general public really is very conservative when it comes to adopting to new technology. Yes there's plenty of it and "us" kinda of ppl ("us"= the ones who read and post on here ) but its an extremely small % of the population.

For instance I remind myself over and over how carphones was nothing uncommon in the 80's in the USA and it wasn't before very LATE 80's before it caught on Scandinavia, nevertheless one of the two largest brandnames came from there and are almost synonyms with mobile phones nowdays.

This viliv device based on Silverthorne goes up to 1.83Ghz! I think performance will be betterthan many people think.

My view so far is still the OQO and the fujitsu u810 designs have the edge on the new form factor wise.
The LG comes close to the OQO on form factor but is 150grams heavier as far as I can make out and slightly bigger.
Most new umpc devices seem to be opting for 1024x600 screens which is better. Perfomance on the Menlow is too early to tell

My main problem with these "pocketables" though is that with a battery time of 2-3hrs max, they really are all not really as good as their size because they lack true portability
