I remember boxing matches between the Model 01 and the Vaio UX. The crowds roared and cheered at every punch and jab. Then things changed. The boxing ring morphed into a steel cage mid-round. I get the feeling the OQO corner still thinks this is a boxing match rather than a battle royale. As cellys encroach the UMPC market more and more, OQO needs to get its head in the game because the latest entrant goes by the name of X1.

Is this battle Sony Ericsson's by a K.O? Why do I need a Model 03 again?

Definately a step in the right direction but it runs windows mobile, which isn't a proper OS. eg the internet experience wont be good I bet

Sony has multiple products and divisions that it is constantly touting and putting product entries into the market in hopes of capturing the 'next big thing' crown...this Sony Ericsson is no different. It is produced by a different division than the one that runs the Vaio line...it runs Windows Mobile...it's just a smartphone...very elegant one at that.

OQO definitely needs to step up with its next model or hopefully two. I am a happy 01+ and UX owner...but I passed on the 02 because I simply need to have a camera(s) a-la Sony on my portable device.

Sony is a huge company with so many sources of revenue streams, R&D, and production outlets that it would be hard for anybody to compete with them over the long run, let alone a super-small (relative to Sony) company as OQO; however, the fact they are still in the ring is what is exciting and I expect big things from OQO later this year and next.

This issue cuts across all UMPC's. Lots of folks, myself included, would just like the ability to review and edit office files, and see pdf's. That's requiring less and less in terms of size and processing power. I can already edit word docs on google docs using my Nokia N810.

It does present more of a challenge for OQO because that's their only product line, and the size/power combo of the 02 puts it closer overall to the smart phones.

I'd like to see OQO come out with a much smaller linux-based device close to the size of the Nokia 770/800/810 that can edit office files and surf the web much more like a full computer than today's smartphones.

The X1 is made by HTC for SE.

People who talk about windows mobile or palm os's taking over the umpc market don't truly understand the significance of having a REAL os running on such a small device.

In my opinion it's all about the abilities. A real PC running a real OS has infinitely more options than a PHONE running a watered down PHONE OS.
