Cebit seemed short on new umpc announcements, perhaps this is the reason, according to this slide the handtop market is small according to intel (top left)

I think its only really the likes of fujitsu, oqo, samsung and sony we can watch for developmemts now, once every 2-3 years they'll each release a new umpc. The one who hasn't updated their model most recently is Sony

Refreshes seem to have slowed down on the ux front, its gradually getting withdrawn from counties (probably because it isnt selling). I think (and this is a guess) the next u series will be a different form factor.

The masses have spoken...the iPhone is king.

PocketPCs are dead.
Palm is dead.
UMPCs...are still a no show despite the huge vendor turnout. Only the niche user community (us) are buying these devices.

pocketpc is now MS mobile, its far from "dead", and the iphone needs 10 light years to catch up to it.

Windows Mobile is a smartphone and it's doing ok, but it doesn't have the same buzz and mass appeal as the iPhone.

The comment on the PocketPC being dead is in a PDA or standalone sense.

What's the deal with Microsoft buying Danger and their SideKick (it runs Java as an OS)?

Then I guess it's a good job that apple released a warp drive for it (otherwise known as the SDK).
