So we've had CEBIT and CES. Zilch exciting new stuff unless you want an Asus Eee lookylikely
Last year we got the u810 and the OQO 02, both moved things forward at bit.
This year ... nothing exciting so far.
There's no new device on the radar that excites me.
Want I want is OQO inwards in a Psion 5 form factor, with a decent width and resolution on the screen:
- It needs to have little fan noise (unlike the OQO)
- It needs to be pocketable, so not too much depth (unlike the U810, from Fujitsu).
- The screen needs to be wide enough so you don't have to scroll horizontally which is tiresome (are you listening OQO?)

Pocketables seems to agree on the boredom factor thats creeping into umpcs..

Looks like the market focus this year is breaking off into either MIDs or EEE-type laptops, leaving the true fully capable handtop in the middle somewhere. The MIDs do appear to have substantial computing power, but I guess they don't want to oversell them so they are categorizing them as MIDs instead of UMPC's.

Personally I think MIDs are a mistake, if you havent a full OS I would expect a phone

I wrote the original comment in response to lack of interesting designs from CES or Cebit or IDF. However, I think the new Sharp design is very interesting and moves things forward. I just hope it can run vista ok

I agree MIDS current direction is doomed for failure but maybe the new Sharp D4 which does run Vista may get these OEM's back in touch with reality?

Is this an UMPC? link
