Wow, nice, I wonder is there any place on the HDD to squish extra 3mm? (so we could used 8mm HDD).

I tried, and it almost fit, but the back cover wouldn't lay flat, it bulged a little around where the HD sits. I didn't try to put the battery on anyway for fear that it would get jammed somehow. It's just a tiny bit off though, maybe as little as 1mm. Very frustrating!! Maybe tnkgrl can figure something out when I loan it to her to tinker with.

If someone could figure out a way to get an 8mm HDD in the FP, that would be great since it would open us up to larger capacity 1.8" hard drives.

If you cut away the back cover where the HD sits then it will fit and when you put the battery on the hard drive will be protected. However I replaced the HD with a 60GB Samsung 5 mm drive and it is plenty for me so I do not need to cut away the back cover.
